If you don't have an old Android phone PM me, I can come up with one. They are basically just little computers that work great on WiFi even with no cell service. You can play MP3s, surf the web, play movies, use the camera, use as a flashlight or nightlight, use as a white noise generator, use as a programmable alarm clock, and many other things I haven't thought of yet. I love having old phones around for these things. 2 phones ago is my alarm clock and my last phone is a nightlight and sleep noise generator. Got another one in the kitchen to look things up on the internet.

I have a 3 year old HTC Vivid/Raider but it's too bulk to carry when I jog and I don't want to wear an armband to carry my phone. Thats why I'm looking into buying a small MP3 player.

Just get a clip +. It's true that I killed my first one with rain and sweat, but it was over the course of about 6 years (the soldered points connecting the battery crapped out, and my skills were insufficient to fix it). My second one has been going strong for a year, and I use it for about 1-2 hours 6 times per week, charging it about once a week just to be safe.

The Sansa Clip+ and Sansa Clip Zip are both still available from SanDisk. There's also a new Clip Sport, but its software is garbage. The Clip Zip was the successor to the Clip+, and I prefer it for a couple of reasons: The Clip+ clip was notorious for breaking, while the one on the Clip Zip is stronger. The Clip+ has a two-tone screen, while the Clip Zip has a larger (albeit low quality) color screen. Some people have said they prefer the Clip+ screen for readability, but I find the larger screen of the Clip Zip to allow more and/or larger text. I use an easy to read Rockbox theme with larger font that lets me see it more easily while running or exercising.

I'm by no means an apple fan, but I must point out that I load albums and podcasts onto my iPoop using dropbox and a fairly simple app. It is by no means as simple as it should be, but it does bypass itunes. I dont remember the name of that app, because my icrap is at home and I'm not installing itunes malware just to find out the name of an app I installed months ago. It's absurd that you cant just go to their site and look at what you've bought without installing a massive piece of malware. God forbid.

iTunes format? It plays common unprotected audio formats like AAC and MP3. With that said, the Sony Walkman series is fine.

90% of my stuff is in WMA format. Not having to deal with iTunes to move stuff around was a huge plus.

Yeah, I don't get all of the suggestions for a phone. Way too bulky/heavy.

Just get a Clip+ or Clip Zip and a 32GB uSD card. Load Rockbox on it and you're done.

Less than an ounce. Durable but also cheap so if you squash it, it's not a big deal to replace.
