Hey guys

I am looking to upgrade my current scsi raid workstation i am using a Adaptec 2100s raid controller {yes i know its a pos}
I am having a real hard time finding any info on Scsi raid controllers, seems like there aren't many good reviews. I saw one awhile back about an Atto technologies card that smoked the adaptec 2100s but lost the link. So i need your expert advice on what is the best controller for under $500. I will be using 2 IBM SCSI 36GB 10,000RPM hdd in a raid 0 setup I went with the ibm because of cost and
warranty. I get alittle lost with all the technical info on these cards and I'm not sure wich one to get. Also in the setup should i set the transfer rate at 32 or 64 kb? Any info i can get to set this system up right is appeciated. Tia

I will be using an Asus p4t533 mobo and rdram 1066 p4 2.53 proc running win2k
also have a Enermax EG465p- ve psu

Also what do you guys think of this memory selection?
KINGSTON KVR1066X18-8/256 RAMBUS 256MB 1066MHZ ECC -

I haven't purchased the mobo yet and i only see the Asus P4t533-c offered in one flavor I preferer a mobo with no onbaord sound or video. If this is my only choice for 1066rdram let me know.

I just got hold of a 2100S for about $70. Just wondering why it's a POS??? Not that it'll matter at that price, but I'd still like to know...

Yeah,

I wonder too why its a POS? Not maybe the fastest and with most features, but its a reliable solution w. great Adaptec support.
With only 2 drives you dont need anything more! And since you are buying a mobo w. std pci slots, I see no reason to upgrade.
If you had 4 or more ultra fast drives, i could see you buying a dual channel controller + a mobo both with support for 64bit 66Mhz pci bus etc...
Those IBMs cannot even use all what that card has to offer.

Well, just my thoughts...

Well if i had only paid $70 for my card i too would be singing its praises, but unfortunately I paid a considerable amount more say $500 less than a year ago, so at that price i am quite diasapointed. as speed was my major goal. Realiable yes fast no.
but i take full responsibility for my purchase. I didn't do the homework I'm trying to do this time around. I want speed in the biggest bottleneck in the system. I have decided i want to go with the seagates listed below. but what mobo and controller will support these?
as I asume they need a 66mgz pci bus.

I assume you mean Cheetah 15K.3, those are the newest, the 10.000 RPM line is called Cheetah 10K.6 though.
Just make sure you get the right ones, would kinda suck to shell out a load of cash for that setup only do discover you got the wrong stuff

the seagate cheetahs are great drives, and the raid cards my friends tried are the intel srcu32 dual channel u160, and the ami megaraid elite 1600 controller. you can pick either of these up on ebay or scsi4me.com for under $500. also, check on storage review for drives and cards.
