So basically, this coming June I'll be graduating from a Technical Institute with an AS in Electrical Technology - (EE Based). I'm looking into schools now to apply to for this coming September. One thing I know for sure is that I want EE to be a major at wherever I apply. I want them to be in the Northeast/New England area. They don't have to be well known for me to apply. Right now, I have 2 schools on my list - Manhattan College and University of Mass. at Amherst.

What I've heard about UMass is sort of a mixed bad. The class sizes there are ridiculous, you are basically a number on a list. The location gets boring, because Amherst is still pretty far from Boston. It's also known as "Zoomass" because of the party reputation it has. On the flip side, there's lots of people there so you are sure to find a group to hang out with.

Manhattan College is a different story. From growing up and living in the Saugerties/Woodstock area of NY.. yes, the Woodstock 69/94/99 concert hometown, Manhattan is just about an hour and a half away. I visited yesterday with my uncle who is an Alumni there. The campus was nice, the classes were small (some EE classes had 6-10 people in them), NYC is just a short bus ride away, and the campus is close to home if I want to come home for the weekend.

I'm applying to both right now, early decision. But what I'm asking is advice on more engineering schools to apply to. I just want to have a nice cushion under me when it comes to applying and being accepted, etc. In case I don't get accepted somewhere, I'll have something to fall back on. Also, if you have anything to add to Manhattan or UMass... feel free. I tried to keep this as short and to the point as I could.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure you can find some schools online that are in the areas you want.

Key is to apply to one or two that you know you can get into, and maybe a few that are more like a stretch.

good luck!

Yeah. Having this AS already, some colleges won't even look at my SAT scores or anything. I know Manhattan I'll be accepted being that the #1 criteria as a transfer student is an AS/AAS degree. My uncle is also an alumni there, so it's basically I'm 100% accepted. I'm just wondering what are some good reputation schools, well known or not well known in the Northeast to apply to.

Depends on the school. On Manhattans App. right in front of me, it says.. "Applicants applying for early decisions must submit their application prior to November 15. A decision will be rendered before December 15. Each early decision applicant must also submit a short letter requesting consideration as an early decision candidate."
