You should try a little known game called Singularity. I consider it one of the great "finds" that I've ever come across in gaming.

You play as an American soldier who explores a Russian island while phasing between the present and the past. There are no stats, only limited "perks"; you upgrade them, your weapons, and the device you use to manipulate time in whatever order you want to with money you find lying around. After I finished I sought out some reviews and some stuffy britches complain that there are similar gameplay mechanics to HL2. It's true but doesn't affect the enjoyment of the game.

Singularity is one of the most fun games I've can remember playing. It's like stumbling upon a cheesy action movie on the couch one lazy afternoon and being riveted until the end. That's kind of what happened to me with "Serenity". I didn't even know what Firefly was when I saw it channel flipping and it hooked me from start to finish.

no u wont have a problem because they are not continuous.
Meaning you rarely see one overlapping the other until you get into the X and XIII where they have X-2 and XIII-2 and XIII-3.

Personally if you dont mind the graphics, the older ones are really good with very excellent story lines and character development.
XV honestly felt a bit rushed, the story line was meh, i did not really get attached to any of them, and honestly it was an overall bro fest. (meaning no choice at all minus a few battles in having female characters in your party, really wished Aranea Highwind was a perm addition).

The greatest story will obviously be from the originals like FFIV-FFVI-FFVII-FFVIII-FFIX
FF-X is worth playing but its a 2 parter, and FF XIII is also good as it features character development and
The most powerful hero out of all of them. Lets face it, Lightning can ground stomp Sephiroh with her eyes closed

They remastered 4 so it maybe a good option.

heh i could never get into FFX, the english voice acting was terrible

I was going to suggest this as well. It's not as good as B:I, but it was pretty damn good for the time.

OP You should try Alien: Isolation. You can generally get it pretty cheap. It's actually a game most people say is TOO long. (because of the constant panic attacks) but it is a great game.

Quantum Break is kind of in the same realm as Fear series or even Bioshock, but not as good, has some big name actors in live action clips as well.

It's hard for me to imagine you haven't played it but I'll throw it out there anyway:

I found the straight forward narrative of Metro 2033 refreshing. The people who complain that its "too linear' make me want to puke. Every game doesn't has to be open world to cater to their limited scope of enjoyment.

I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of that game.

Thats because the game became linear.

Metro was on the lines of something like fallout.
The open world features you had and the need to pick stuff up, was what made it great.

Then it turned into a gears of war type thing where you go to next objective, and then the next.

That is why we sorely miss a game what that much open features.
I really want another Skyrim, and not a Dragon Age Inquisition.

Metro "became" linear? I don't recall any open world elements in that game.

It's a tale of a young man thrust into a quest through the deserted subways of Moscow in a desperate attempt to save his home settlement. Basically a playable story, and a very entertaining one at that. I loved it because it's not open world.

And I agree that DA:I was exceedingly mediocre (what I played of it at least) but Skyrim is the exact opposite of what the OP is asking for. There's too much side stuff in that game. It's unfocused (I know many people love it, that's just my opinion).

So.... I've never played Final Fantasy and don't know anything about the lore or backstory. Is this going to be a problem?

Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

No. pretty much all Final Fantasy games are stand-alone stories with their own internal lore and characters. The only thing that really caries over from one game to the next are chicken mounts.

You want character development, then play Kingdom Come Deliverance. You start out as a wet behind the ears blacksmiths son in an utterly brutal era where a wound can have you bleed out in minutes. And you're thrown into a big story line where you have to grow up super fast. You start out basically incompetent at everything and it's a real struggle but it has an immense sense of progression, and I really like the story so far.

Dragon Quest XI. But get the PC version, and make sure you get the orchestral music mod . . . the default GMIDI music is actually pretty bad.
