Need some help before reformatting

Hi,

I've been considering to reformat my comp since its been almost a year heh.
But like many people we have alot of programs games etc. installed on here but we dont really want to reinstall.. only reason i want to reformat is because xp is acting up and ive been really pissed at it, like when you goto start and try to turn off the computer the pop up wont come up and also sometimes it boots up and stays on the boot screen for a very long time, but anyways the question is dose anyone know of a way to save some curretnt window files so that when i finish reformatting my c drive partiton with new fresh copy of xp that i can just copy the windows files so it thinks that the games programs are already installed and i dont have to reinstall anything but some of the drivers?

Hope someone will know what im saying and might have a hunch to this.

You can backup your data(mp3's, jpeg's, saved game files) but your games and other programs will have to be reinstalled. I don't see anyway around that.

Try checking the disk for errors if you have not already done so. I had a similar problem once with the XP welcome screen hanging on bootup and the XP error checking utility fixed it.

I have tried that with nortan windows error checking but there was nothing related to it. I have this partitoned so the windows is in its own partiton. I think it would think its a curroped windows file so reinstalling would be good then just copy the old windows folder into the new one BUT saying no to overwrite all the files and only let the program dll etc stuff that was installed later would be installed and merge the registery also.

Thanks tho anyone else that has an idea i would like to hear also.

I dont think this is possible due to Windows' reliance on its registry, and we all know how much we love that.

I was able to run some games w/o reinstalling them : MOHAA, SoF2
Most of the other programs require reinstall.
If your windows ran 1 year, it's about time to change the oil (i.e. do a reformat).
