I used to peruse Anandtech forums years ago for all the latest information. Haven't been back in years, but it looks like this is still the place to go for information.
I built my father a Core 2 duo system years ago that was running XP. It finally died.
I've not kept up with any of the AMD vs Intel stuff, so I'm here asking for input.
I'm not looking to build a computer, just recommend an OEM machine from Asus or Acer or Lenovo. Don't think I want him to get a Dell or HP as I'm not favorably impressed with either based on experience.
So:
1. PC will be used for Email, Web browsing and some light Office applications. No heavy gaming or first person shooter. Some web based gaming is about all. He wants to try Windows 8.1.
2. Budget is $500 to $600. Closer to $500 the better.
3. Parts will be from USA.
4. N/A
5. I have no preference in AMD vs Intel. I'd like the best bang for the buck.
6. N/A
7. No overclocking.
8. 22" flat panel display, not sure the resolution.
9. Plan to order it in the next few days.
My basic question based on what I saw at Best Buy for a desktop computer are Intel I3, I5 or I7 vs AMD A8 or A10 core. What do you guys recommend?
How much RAM? 4 gigs enough or should I get 6 or 8?
Thanks in advance!
