On July 11, 2003, I proceeded to buy hosting services from www.toplevelhost.com ($59.99/year). I got my account setup and it worked. They didn't put on their website that their servers are connected to an OC-12 backbone. But reference to that, here is a link saying they do http://www.hostsearch.com/companyinfo.asp?companycode=4745
But later in the week i found the site to be really slow, during peak hours the site is ultra slow and i suspected that they're not on oc-12 because i was geting speeds of 20kb/s which is slow. So i complained about that in an email.
Here is his response
"As far as the uploads and downloads.. I have not found a server faster."
I double sent the email, 1 to sales@toplevelhost.com, and 1 to mike@toplevelhost.com on purpose so i can get a faster response. But i didn't know until later that the same person picks up those emails. So he then replied by another email trying to ignore me, here's his response:
"The Email address, emailgary@shaw.ca will no longer be accepted by my address do to invailed dates missing headers"
Those were his exact words, and the spelling/grammatical errors were his
So i thought WTF? Invalid dates and headers is this guy high? SO i used another email of mine to email him.
Here's the message i mailed him

I recently had a problem with subdomains not working, from what i read, if i get a 404 error using a subdomain i should get an admin to check it out for me. SO basically i self corrected this myself by taking out the redirection link on the subdomain, then it worked. I didn't need his help anymore, but i just want to check with him to make sure.
In response to my email, he said this.
"Well If you don't know... Maybe I can cure the problem now.
Is that what you would like."
Then another one to follow with that he said
"Let's put it this way..I'm not going to put up with a bunch of bs.
If you what a war.. I'm the wrong guy to try and start one with."
Again all this spelling and grammar errors were his. Wow how professional he is? Trying to start a war? WTF do you mean, maybe he is the one trying to start a war.
Then another follow up
"I just check the sub domains are active. I'll log in to your account to see.
So after that email, i went to check my control panel from the webhosting server. Subdomains works no problem.
But later on that day i get a request for paypal from him! For 7.50!
The subject was "Abnormal Support"
Money Request Details
Amount: $7.50
Note: Support request for issues, where client knowingly
had no problems.
I then wrote in an email saying that i have self corrected this problem and there is no need to charge me! Also on his website he never mentioned about extra charges for tech support ever! I never found anything regarding extra charge for it.
So then i gave him an email asking for a refund.
Here's the message
Dear Mike,
This is Gary. I am requesting a refund because I am un-satisfied with your services. I am asking you this kindly, and giving you $5.00 for the services that I used this month ($60.00 divided by 12 months = $5.00) but I'm adding another $7.50 for your time and customer service, totalling $12.50. All in all the total refund will only be 47.99. I can also accept paypal to this email address. After the refund you can shut down my account on your server. Please let me know ASAP.
Thank you for your time.
Gary
Here is his response
"That's $7.50 above the already paid. If it not paid I will shut the account down.
We do not offer refunds."
I then asked him what is this $7.50 charging me for?
Here's his reponse
"Just your playing around. You where trying to tell that the subdomains
where not active on your account. But when I check they where. And then
when I check your account you had already created one. Useless
unnessary requesting support on issues of where there is no problems.
Continues sending mail with invalid dates. Basically just taking up my
time with your I did I didn't sindrom. "
Here's my response to that
Mike, Cpanel said that if i get a 404 while trying to access a subdomain i need it manually activated by an admin. That was why i needed to email you thinking it needs to be manually set by you, since you're the admin. You can blame Cpanel that's all i care about, since it was misleading thinking u have to set it active. Also what do you mean emails with invalid dates? What's an example of an email with a valid date? The date on the last email was Mon, 20 Jan 2003 20:11:11 -0500 AND i think that is pretty correct.
The fact was that they subdomains never worked and gave me a 404 until i found out the problem. Logic led me thinking that the subdomains needed to be activated.
Througout this ordeal i have remained my cool and as polite/professional as i can. But this guy is pushing me off the edge!
Since yesterday at around 8:00pm, he changed my password to my control panel where i access my files and stuff, and change my ftp stuff so now i can't access anything!
I want to get a refund, but i don't know what to do. So far i have just compliant to paypal with the little complaint form.
If someone could give me some advice, it'll be kindly appreciated! Thanks
