Need some help with Kodi and Openvpn!

I'm not sure whether it is the right place for this. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
My friend has got Kodi and he wants me to setup VPN on it. I personally use a premium vpn but I ain't willing to set it up on it. So I looked for a way out and here's what i have found:

• Open Kodi
• Go to SYSTEM and then File Manager.
• Click Add Source.
• Choose None.
• Type the given address: http://fusion.tvaddons.ag
• Click done.
• Select the box that says enter a name for this media device and input the name fusion.
• Click ok.
• Go to the Kodi app on your Home Screen.
• Click System.
• Go to Add-ons from the pane.
• Then click install from zip file.
• Click fusion.
• Then click XMBC-repos.
• Select English.
• Click metalkettle-x.x.x.zip and then wait until the Add-on enabled prompt is shown.
• Click Install from a repository or Get Helix Add-On.
• Then click MetalKettles Addon Repository.
• Go to Program add-ons.
• Now click OpenVPN.
• Click Install and wait for the Add-on enabled prompt to show up.
• Click VPN for OpenELEC.
• Finally, click Install and wait for the Add-on enabled prompt to show up.

So I just wanted to confirm whether it will require the premium sub of mine or can it work without it?

Only if your friend is using your VPN service... From the same source you quoted:

Now that you have installed the appropriate add-ons, it is time to complete the installation by configuring VPN for OpenELEC.

• Click VPN for OpenELEC.
• Click Launch.
• Then click Setup VPN.
• Choose your desired VPN provider from the list that shows up.
• Click Continue.
• Input your VPN username and password.
• Click OK.
• Click the back arrow located on the upper left corner.
• Click Continue VPN.
• Choose your preferred server from the list that pops up.
• Wait until the server connects.
• You will be notified once you have been successfully connected.
• Then go back and select Check my IP.

use super repo or kodi's official to get open vpn addon, then install it from the zip file.

Step 1: Installing OpenVPN repository on Kodi

1. Navigate to the “System” tab and select “Settings” option.
2. Select the “Add-ons” option.
3. Select the option “Install from repository”.
4. Now select the option “openELEC Add-ons (unofficial)”.
5. Select “Program Add-ons” option.
6. Then select “openvpn” add-on and install it.

Cool tutorial! Your steps were somewhat confusing to me and I really didn't understand the repository thing so I went to this blog via your youtube link and it said that they have an addon of their own! Do you know about it?

what i usually do is just open the vpn and kodi at the same time. that way i don't need an addon. open elec does have an addon of its own which you can download through the steps i've listed. about the page you mentioned, seems like the addon i could find was that for open elec. so if you're on open elec instead of android, you might want to check out kodi addon for openelec. there was a support page but i can't find the link anymore. do share if you do.

Hey. Though it may not be the place but there are a few ways to do this. Either you can get a vpn addon inside of kodi, but then your choices would be really, really limited. you can do that by getting Kobra repository first up.

The other way to do this would be to configure your existing vpn over your router in which case all your traffic will be routed through it. but it will be a pain to change the region each time assuming you're configuring it over your router.

yet another way would be to look for vpn addons for firestick, not kodi. again, your options will be really limited here. also, you'll have to have an account in each ease, regardless of the method. like you might be able to set up your vpn through a router, but if there's no account, it prolly wouldn't work. i know you have one but i'm still putting it out for others who might be going through the same.
