Need some help!! ZIF tab broke off and killed my cpu!

HELP HELP HELP!! I find it hard to believe myself, but my system has DIED. BIG dead died. I came home yesterday to find the computer wouldn't turn on, checked the power, nada... eventually got to opening the case and viola! My heatsink, BIG A$$ HEATSINK (FOP38), was dangling from one side of the zif socket. Greeeaat. Yessir, the duron is dead. Turns out one of the zif tabs that the heatsink attatches to just broke off. No jostling, just our of the blue broke off. I'm trying to RMA the board with MSI (MSI K7tPro2a) although I doubt they'd be willing to reimburse me for the fried duron Anyhow,for the time being I need some kind of clip adapter for my FOP38 that will allow it to attatch to the remaining 2 tabs on the zif socket... I know that is an odd questions, but this is a must! Can anyone offer some kind of advice here?

that mobo has the 4 holes around the socket doesnt it?? if so , id try and rig an adapter of some sort to hold down the HSF , either that or get a swiftech 462 that already uses these 4 holes for holding it down , good luck!

Bad luck. I am right there with you. I had a 1.33ghz chip cook that way. With a stock type heatsink. We all seem to forget how much we have riding on that little piece of plastic....just a simple weak spot in a ten cent part and it will destroy a couple of hundred dollars worth of processor..

Moment of silence for a dead cpu.

When Pop tried to put a FOP32-1 on my A7V133, it broke the centre lug clean off. Luckily, it happened during installation but that made me fear what could have happened if the break was delayed. That is what happened to you, unfortunately. For peace of mind, I replaced it with a Taisol on my replacement mobo since they attach to all 3 lugs on both sides of the socket. Pop uses one on the broken mobo (which he kept for himself).
