need some more blank cdrs... what are some good ones?

they all work perfectly fine in my experience... and I've only bought generic ones in the last 2 years. I just go for the best deal when it comes to CDRs. Different story for DVDRs.

same here. never had a problem with buying the cheapest at walmart or target.

On a related note, what are some good 8.5gb dvd-rs? Are they all pretty much the same? Is there much of a difference between dvd burners these days?

 

Just buy whatever is cheapest and easiest to get your hands on.

I still religiously look for the 'made in Japan' cdrs. The Taiwan and Indian cdrs have quality problems, imo, and they don't last because of it. Whatever CDR you get, look for a glossy label side - some even have a nice coating. If the labeling comes off a cdr, you lose data..
