The Leviathan albulm by Mastadon is great too. I like several tracks from the Blood Mountain album, but it's not as strong as Leviathan IMHO.
both are great, I really like Josh Homme's additions to blood mountain. Leviathan will always be my favorite record by them but BM is pretty fantastic in a different way.
Homme drums on Colony of Birchmen and gives it that awesome stoner metal feel, very stark contrast to their normal stuff but it works so well
BM took me about 5 spins through to really "get it". Colony of the Birchmen is probably my favorite Mastadon song of all albums...which strangely enough is also their most radio friendly song. Definitely dig the stoner rock vibe of the song.

I have Blood Mountain, which I enjoy about 50% of. One track on it, that I can't recall the name of, really blows me away, but there is a bunch of lackluster stuff as well. I'll have to get Leviathan though if it is as good as you both say it is.

kudos for asking for music recommendations and actually giving a frame of reference for what you like! god i hate the "recommend me some music! i like rock" threads.
sounds like you're into some proggy/down-tempo/doomy stuff. in that vein:
The Ocean
Baroness
The Sword
Gojira
Mastodon (strong Neurosis influences in some of their earlier stuff, i'd say)
This Will Destroy You (if you want to dial it back a bit)

Not sure you'll like these, but give 'em a whirl and see:
Killswitch Engage
Dark Tranquility
Soilwork
Scar Symmetry (I think someone may have already suggested this)
Children of Bodom
At the Gates
The Haunted
Testament (new stuff is out!)
Exodus
That should be good enough for now.

Thanks in advance for any and all recommendations.

Not really sure if if fits in with the bands you listed but give the 1st Gordian Knot CD a try. Defiately falls into the "metal/prog/whatever area"
You can here some clips on Amazon, though they don't do the songs justice.

I will echo the recommendations for Between the Buried and Me's Colors album (if you don't mind 10+ minute songs) and Gojira. Next to Opeth, I've been listening to them the most lately.

You should check out Zao's Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest album.
Edit: which is, in my opinion, the best 'metalcore' album of all time. I've always been a metal fan, and Zao is my favorite band, hands down. The new stuff kind of sucks, but the older albums are amazing.
Also, check out Ayreon for epic, opera-ish metal, Lamb Of God for headbanging, and Circle Takes The Square, or CTTS for screaming, in your face music.

LMAO no wonder they disabled comments, that video is brutal!
The music sounds decent, not sure I can handle the vocals for an extended period though. I'll need to do more listening.
Thanks!

A Latter Rain is another awesome song. Psalm of the City of the Dead is a newer Zao song where the vocalist actually sings. It's much more cookie cutter metal, but still a long good song.

How is the new Testament stuff? I haven't listened to them in about 10 years. Exodus is still around? thanks for the others.
