I like some Anathema, but I don't really enjoy their newer stuff so much, it kind of became a little too, um, wimpy? Not sure if that's the right word, but that's sort of how it feels.

I'll check out Katatonia though, thanks.

KT

well you won't like new katatonia either then (i dont so much anymore), but try their album Brave Murder Day, they use mikael from opeth for the vocals. one of my all time favorites.

btw this thread delivers

Not sure you'll like these, but give 'em a whirl and see:

Killswitch Engage
Dark Tranquility
Soilwork
Scar Symmetry (I think someone may have already suggested this)
Children of Bodom
At the Gates
The Haunted
Testament (new stuff is out!)
Exodus

That should be good enough for now.

How is the new Testament stuff? I haven't listened to them in about 10 years. Exodus is still around? thanks for the others.

KT

Forgive me, the new stuff isn't out til the 29th of this month. The song publicly available on myspace has more melodic vocals than you would expect, but it's still thrashy goodness.

Thanks.

/runs off to Myspace (can't believe I just said that).

Heh, sorry, I'm at work and trying to avoid doing, um, work. Finding new music is much more important.

Thanks for the updated info.

I've never heard a lot of what's been posted here.

I will suggest:

Spineshank
Diecast
Five Finger Death Punch
All That Remains
Dry Kill Logic

Oooooohhh, so many awesome bands ...

I'm gonna second Canai's recommendation of Ayreon. Ayreon is fvcking awesomely awesome. I'd even venture to say that they are awesome at the Opeth level! You can't go wrong with any of the albums, but if you only were to sample 1, be sure to give "The Human Equation" a listen. Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the guest vocalists on that album.

Also, it's worth checking out Blackfield an No Man (Steve Wilson's other bands) They aren't really "heavy", but the music still rocks.

I've only heard a couple of tracks, but the new testament sounds a lot like testament from the early 90s. It's good thrashy stuff. It doesn't have the "deathy" sound like they tried to do later in the 90s. It's not among my personal favorites, but still good music!

If you want any really crazy shiat, listen to Bloodbath's first or second CD. Mikael from Opeth is in that (as well as some Katatonia as was pointed out earlier)

If you haven't heard it, check out Edge of Sanity - Crimson. Swano is a genious, and Akerfeldt's playing and vocals are great on it.

On the Doomy side of things, I can't get enough Warhorse or Electric Wizard.
Also I'm a huge Novembers Doom fan, their older stuff is pretty straight death doom, but they've really changed over the last decade. Mostly I'm recommending them since they are local, and it helps that Dan Swano mixed their CDs The Pale Haunt Departure and The Novella Reservoir.

Whoa, thanks! there are several there that I do have and I'm not a huge fan of true death metal, but there are definitely a good chunk that I will be checking out from those lists.

Cheers.

Kinda old, but checkout Rammmstein Feuer Frei--in Lego. German is the perfect language for Metal IMO.

Fist one sounds good. Didn't think I liked Rammstein, but that one you linked is OK.
