As I get a little older, I've turned to drinking whiskey much more than in my younger daze. I recall my Dad some years ago saying that beer put him to sleep, which kind of amazed me, as I'd seen him put away half a case or more during an evening with friends (and look none the worse for it). I didn't get it back when I was in my twenties, but I get it now.

I need some new rocks glasses. Recommendations? I like elegant, but simple. And no flaming connoisseur whisky sniffing tulip bullshit snob glasses. I like to drink, not worship and smell my booze.

Giant "old fashioned" glasses seem to be most common, but I'm not drinking mixed drinks with orange slices and cherries. And not the little rocks glasses common in bars. I don't like getting up every ten minutes to refill my glass.

You just missed a good time to get glasses. A lot of whisky comes with glasses around jul. I like tulip shaped glasses, or more accurately, glasses that are based on the Edinburgh Crystal thistle pattern that's no longer made afaik. I got a nice pair of Glenmorangie glasses in that shape.

I bought a set of Luigi Bormioli Strauss rocks glasses back in early January and really like them. They have a classic clean look to them and they aren't to big but hold a sufficient amount to keep you satisfied for awhile.
I'm a vodka man my self but I'd imagine they would work well for whiskey to.

Here's a link to the glasses. Don't let the squared edges fool you. You don't have to take a drink from the corner. They are rounded just enough so you can take a drink from anywhere on the edge of the glass.

While your at it get yourself some 2" ice cube trays and do it right. I got these from Amazon and they work good and melt evenly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00395I60E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I dunno about square(ish) glasses. Not my idea of classic. A bar where I hung out at for some years had square glasses and you did have to drink from the corners, or else you poured half your drink down your shirt.

Yeah, I think I may invest in some silicone ice trays, too.

That. The whiskey won't taste any different coming out of an expensive pretentious rocks glass than it tastes coming out of an empty jar.

Let us know what you stock your kitchen with once you're out of college. And if you're actually out of college... LOL.

That's what like about these. They have a square look but are rounded just enough that you can take a drink from anywhere on the rim not just the corner. I guess they are more contemporary than classic though.

Definitely get some 2" ice cube trays. Even if you don't go with silicon trays the bigger cubes are nice for straight or even mixed drinks like a vodka tonic.

Them's fancy. I like the little projections to keep you from dropping your 15th Pappy Van Winkle in your lap.

Go to Etsy and search for whiskey glasses. Nothing fancy, more like a bunch of customizable glasses of that's your thing

you can get the same stuff as ^ from ebay for $10.

not joking. the SAME stuff. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-OF-6-...693463?hash=item2cb51638d7:g:toUAAOSw4GVYGeIQ

please dont buy a decanter. whisky doesn't decant. it doesn't benefit from air penetrating it in any way. whisky decanters are for idiots.

The fuck you can. That isn't Waterford crystal. On what planet is that the same as what I posted?

By the way, the set we have is very complete but we didn't buy it all new at retail prices. My Mom-In-Law bought us this set at an estate sale. Still, it cost her close to a grand but it was way cheaper than buying all these pieces in pairs. I have two pairs of Waterford martini glasses in the Lismore pattern that I use regularly. They are fucking expensive but I do appreciate the beauty of them and it is nice drinking out of such a fine glass.

BTW-I've replaced a few pieces that we have broken over the years. Still, I'd rather use them and break one or two occasionally than not use them at all.

Also, Waterford is downright affordable compared to Baccarat.
