So, I'm driving some friends to the airport for a 4AM check-in-time. This means that I'll be home at... About 6AM.

And I'm leaving home at 11:30.

I have a case of Bawls... But I need some music that won't make me sleepy.

Stuff I like:
Trance (in general)
Sonata Arctica
Nightwish
Within Temptation
After Forever

I'm thinking Trance may not be a good bet for late-night highway driving, but if anyone has something REALLY lively that they could point me at, it would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Opeth. They're a Swedish metal band and they are by far the best band in metal. Exceptionally musically talented, their sound is about the juxtaposition of loud and soft, beautiful and gutteral and they do it better than anyone else.

Opeth is old hat for me.

Disturbed

I would, but the assriding would be ridiculous, because my girlfriend's favorite band is Disturbed, and if I ever seen to show any acknowledgement of anything she enjoys, these other asshats will jump all over me for it. Most days this is okay, but I'd be entirely too tempted to drop a knife into someone's carryon.

roflcakes.

... And does someone want to remind me why the hell I'm letting my girlfriend go to Cancun for spring break with 3 other guys? I can't remember where in the hell my logic process went on this one. The last time I let my girlfriend go somewhere exotic with 3 guys... Well, yeah.

You could try some of these:

Trivium
Soil
Lacuna Coil
Warlock
Rammstein
Mudvayne
Shinedown

Or just good old Anthrax, lol.

Edit: For Power Metal look at Edguy.

Check out Kenna.

He has one obscure album, New Sacred Cow, which consists of the best pop music of the 21st century. The album is heavily new-waved influenced but some songs lean more towards Radiohead. It's loud, catchy, fun, and great music.

Assuming Opeth is "Old Hat" for you, perhaps listen to some Ayreon or Star One ... I imagine you probably already heard them, but if not they are good stuff. A bit "softer" then my usual tastes, however still most pleasant to the ears, and quite interesting.
