Need some Physics Help!!!

hey guys,

I need to make a bridge out of Uncooked pasta! so far 2 attempts have failed misrebly. The specs of the bridge are:

Must cover a span of 50cm.
Must weigh less then 3lbs.
Must hold up 50lb's worth of weight while spanning the distance!
Can only use Elmer's Glue, or Hot Glue (hot glue works much better)


MAn, after two attempts i'm freaking pissed. The first one broke at like 10 pounds!!! hella retarded..and the 2nd one 20!!!

Make them less higher and use the saved pasta for additional posts?

I would use the lasagna so that it's flat side is up and down, sorta like i beams, much stronger that way. Other than that, looks ok. If you have any spare weight left, i would smoother the thing in glue . I would use the lasagna as said, and glue them together, sorta like those i-beams made out of wood chips. Hopefully that helps

J/k. Actually, download bridgebuilder, have a go at that, see what works, what doesn't. Sure it's not pasta, but the concept is the same, you'll just have to translate a 2d physics engine into a 3d working model. Have fun!

Um, don't cut and glue to lay horizontal. Cut and glue to hang vertical.

Glue short verticals to make long horizontals instead of long horizontals to make thin verticals.

word. I did a similar project in 7th grade, but with 1/8" bass wood. Only got like 2 meters worth, had to span like 18"...mine made it to the wall of fame for that year

yup, triangles rule. my 24" bridge made from toothpicks and elmer's glue took 3 thumps from my teacher before she took it down on the third jump.
