Need some reassurance about Shuttle AK31

I recently started building my first system. The cpu is 1600+ and the mboard is the Shuttle AK31. Similar to what has been stated repeatedly in this forum I bought this after considering the price/performance ratio. Anyway, the guys on the shuttle motherboards forum over at amdmb.com are putting up quite a number of posts complaining about the board and more importantly Shuttle's lack of customer support. Man, I don't want to be hearing this right when I am about to load up an OS!! Are they going a little overkill or have I made, despite my best efforts, a foolish purchase decision?

I don't know anything specifically about this motherboard, but I do know that no matter whay you buy you are going to find detractors who have had problems with it and are going to be exceedingly vocal. Go ahead and load your OS. If all works well keep it. If you have problems that can not be resolved without pulling your hair out then return it for a different motherboard.

If you base your buying decisions based on whether or not some group of people are having problems with any particular component you will never buy anything and never have that home built kickass computer you have always dreamed of. Almost every computer build presents some problems. That is part of the fun of building your own. You learn more with each build.

I have an AK31 v3.1, and I have no problems with it. I don't know what percentage of users have no problems, but I think that I fall into the majority. If you pick one up, though, and it's faulty, you'll know pretty quickly and you can exchange it for either another AK31 (I bought an AK31 v2.0 this past summer and it didn't work but I ended up with an AK31 v3.1 later, even with my reservations about the dead one earlier) or another board.

i have 2 of these motherboards. one running a xp1700, the other a 1.33 tbird. absolutely zero problems. stable and reliable. this is a great mb imo.

I have one and it works just great.

I have one, it's a great board. It overclocks much better than my old 8KTA3 did, and is as stable overclocked as the 8KTA3 was at stock speeds!

This is an excellent board. It has some small quirks, but for $80 it's hard to beat...even with a stick.
