Got a guy building a family computer. The CPU he is using is a 920, I had an MSI sli platinum ski mobo but you guys here certainly have more experience with this stuff.

I mentioned Asus but I don't have any idea of a reliable model. The PC will be the family computer so it must be reliable.

Thank you.

can't exactly be a chooser with these boards anymore, they pretty much can't be found new and for reasonable prices anymore, so you're going to have to be searching for a used board which might not be so easy to get exactly what you want

I'd recommend you try and pick up a model that comes with USB3.0 and SATA6 ports, as the X58 chipset includes neither, although you would have plenty of PCI-e lanes to add expansion cards for such things. At any rate, its hard to find a truly bad motherboard on Intel's enthusiast line, I'd recommend going for one that might have decent support behind it for at least BIOS/software updates (ie, don't get a DFI, as X58 was one of the last chipsets they made a motherboard for before dropping out of consumer products)

If you can get a good price on it, I second the recommendation of the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2. I ran one for several years before it finally gave in (I pushed the system extremely hard). It was an excellent motherboard with a good set of features.

X58 motherboard prices are all over the place these days, though. You may need to fork over a lot of cash for something "decent", or settle for something less. If it's just used for basic use as a family computer, you can pretty much get by with whatever's priced the best.

If you can find a Foxconn Bloodrage, I have two that have been running 24/7 for years highly overclocked. Still currently chugging along without a hiccup and now running Xeon L5639's at 4.4ghz...
