I'm buidling a new rig with:

e8500 (hopefully getting E0)
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
ASUS EN9800GT ULTIMATE/HTDP/512M GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP
Antec NeoPower 650 Blue 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply OR Antec NeoPower 650 Blue 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

I've preselected these motherboards.. I would want to OC the cpu but not over 1.3v, So If any of these boards has a better FSB oceability, please tell me.

Which one do you think performs better for the price? By budget is around 100-170 for the MB.

Oh, I'm also concerned qualitywise. Once I had an Asus MB, pretty old, with electrolytic caps and they just started to leak.

I'm guessing Gigabyte and MSI have good. quality

So, which one? They're all p45

The P5Q Pro is a good middle of the road board. Why does it have to be one of the ones you listed?

I've never understood that. It always comes off as, "I want help, but only if you already agree with me."

For what it's worth, you could save some money without losing any overclocking potential or performance by getting DDR2-1000 if it's less expensive than the kit you picked out.

Heh thanks DSF.

I was just suggesting some boards so yo guys had an easier time helping me on choosing one of them, but of course, if there's another one I did not list, please tell me.

I'll look into the P5Q Pro.

Thanks!

They are all going to 'perform' the same, what you want in a mobo is a good Bios that gets updated frequently and a good OCer. In that case I'd go with either of the MSI boards, or the Biostar that is breaking all the records recently.

Which Biostar do you mean, Sylvanas? I've consistently avoided boards of that manufacture since I've started OC'ing, and generally, I'd always used Intel boards before that. I'm curious.

I'm just going to articulate what we all already know, and what the OP probably already knows. Even so, it's easy to get confused, get in a hurry, and make a myopic decision.

There are "high-end" (> $350) motherboards and there are "low-end" (< $100 ) motherboards. There are good mid-range motherboards. In the budget aspect of the trade-off between features, over-clockability and price -- I suggest you do the homework on the detailed features, deciding what you want or need and what you don't want or need. For me, the actual placement and number of PCI_E slots figured heavily in my decision, but I watched the forums and BIOS-revision developments.

It is possible on some high-end boards that customer-reviews will give mixed results -- an average of less than five stars out of five. This may be because the customer was a newbie and didn't know what he was doing when he configured the board. Perhaps this thought even applies across the spectrum. So you need to find board-maker forum sites to get an idea what the more knowledgeable geeks are saying about it.

And it depends on the intended user. I found a $70 Gigabyte board that was great for upgrades intended for my mom and brother, yet I was able to over-clock it for their E21x0 processors, use only the stock Intel coolers, and they've been rock-stable. For someone like myself, I'm liable to spend above $180, maybe above $200 on a motherboard choice, and "I've been to the mountain" of high-end > $300 motherboards, and it has spoiled me -- more or less.
