Need to find a shower/tub that will fit in this space

I'm figuring out the layout for my basement bathroom and I have a problem. It looks like the bathroom wall may have been built a little off (and it's part of the support for the stairs, meaning it can't be moved). The rough-in for the toilet also seems too close to the wall. This leaves me with a 52x32 space for a shower. The toilet will basically be right up against the shower at this width, so it would be nice to keep it to 30" wide. I'm having a really tough time finding a shower/tub combo that will fit in this space. The best I've found so far are a few 32x32 shower stalls that are either really expensive or very poorly rated.

Here's a (poorly scaled) drawing of the layout: http://pics.bbzzdd.com/users/joshsquall/bathroom.png

Does anyone have any ideas? If I end up with a shower stall, I'll need one that doesn't have a corner door, because it would run into the side of the toilet. I'd really like to have a shower/tub combo, if possible.

Maybe this is a stupid question but do you actually need a shower in this bathroom? Theres nothing wrong with 2.5 baths. (assuming you already have 2 other bathrooms)

edit: If you do really need the extra shower I would strongly recommend that you just get a shower and put it in the lower left corner away from the toilet. You don't have nearly enough space for the layout you want. You can get something 36x36.

I think you'd be kind of tight for any tub unless it was one of the walk in sorts they make for the elderly but, why let them have all the fun? Or, you could have a nice shower with a curb and forget the enclosure.

It would be a big pain for guests to have to go up 2 flights of stairs for a shower. I think it would also be great for resale to have a shower. I guess worst case I can buy a 48x30 shower pan and some 48" sliding doors and then tile the walls. I'm just trying to save myself a lot of work.

I still wouldn't do that. Heres the way I look at it. You are going to make it really unpleasant to use the toilet in exchange for the ability to take a bath instead of a shower. Your guests are going to be taking showers not baths anyway.

edit: It's also against plumbing code to do it the way you want. There has to be 15" between the center of the toilet and the edge of the tub.

Standard rough in for toilet is 12" from back wall to center of toilet flange (4" or 3"), 15" from each side to center of flange (total minimum space 30"), and 24" clearance from the front lip of the toilet bowl. There are toilet that design for 10" rough in. And there are offset toilet flange that will give you up to 2" swing for the oops rough in (need to chip a small amount of floor).

Most shower pan are square or rectangular with 1 width that is 32" or greater. You can have a custom concrete pan that will accommodate any size, however I urge you to re think the layout and go with at the very least 32x32" shower preferably 36x36" or greater because 30" or 32" is quite a cramp space (most men shoulder are 22~23").

60x30" is standard for tub (60.5" wall dimension), and 52" are available however they are not standard and require special order (very expensive 3~5X more than standard tub price).

Pocket door can be utilize if space is a constrain.

In order to change the layout, I'd have to jackhammer the concrete to move the rough-ins. The shower drain and toilet sewer hookup are where they are. About the only thing I could do is frame the wall around the shower to extend it to 60" (into a closet beside the bathroom), but that would probably look pretty weird.

So be it jackhammer the floor ++ move roughin is a very small part of the bathroom reno.

Shouldn't take more than a day to jackhammer, move roughin, and concrete patch.

You forgot to look at the base measurement.

Shower base measures 4.7" tall, 48" wide, and 34" long.

true, well in my quick googling, it looks like either a corner shower stall or those adjustable doors with a custom drain.

Do not get anything smaller than 32x32, its what my sister has in her master bath and she hates it. I showered in it once and its crazy small. Im an average sized guy, 5'10" 190lbs.

Or you could talk to a tile guy and have him pour you a concrete bed custom sized to what you want and not work about shoehorning an off the shelf prefab pan & surround.

$1500 in cash would probably get you a shower that looks a hell of a lot nicer than anything acrylic/fiberglass from a box store.

Tile your own shower stall. It's easy. You can buy a book which shows every step of making them.

Maybe you could just make a shower enclosure out of tile. That way you can make the entrance anyway you want.

More than double.

Custom shower pan typically run around $750 and up around here. Custom glass shower door run roughly $1000 or more, and then there are tiles. Typically surround tiles start at $300~400 but don't be surprise if the tiles head north of $1000, re frame wall and green boards or cement boards installation, and then there is labor for the tiles & carpenter as well as the plumber for the shower roughins.

IMHO, custom shower would be at least $4~5K

OK OP, I can walk you though this, but I need exact measurements. Is this area already framed? Has drywall already been put up? what exists on all four sides? Where is this stair way? Any other structural support beams? Is this already a partially finished basement? Can the doorway open out? where are the water lines? Is the ceiling already up? You say two flights of stairs, would that be the master, or a central? Whats on the main floor? What have you got for electrical down there? Do you want to do all, or most of this yourself? I take it, there is no rough in for the drain for the tub? Do you have any idea of where your drain lines run in your foundation?
BTW, a 47" steel porcelain enamel tub is not a special order, and is readily available for $235, fiberglass would even be cheaper.
