I'm listening to the One Step Beyond by Madness, their 1979 debut album. Nothing better than British new wave music.
New wave is for drag queens who like to listen to morrissey while they sit in a corner and cry.

JLGatsby hasn't yet figured out that Madness was not so much British new wave, but rather a genre called ska.

He hasn't figured out a great many things.

Although some brit ska and new wave was not easily differentiated, for example The Specials.

There is no exact classification for putting a music group into a specific genre.

Madness is first considered ska, yes, but is also often grouped into the new wave category.

I mentioned New Wave in my post because that's what I listen to most. I am not an "in general" ska fan. I like British New Wave above everything.

I contend that my favorite form of music is superior to your favorite form of music.

egotistical, eh?
to each his own

my music ranges from Beatles, Journey, Rolling Stones, to Lostprophets, Fall Out Boy and Death Cab for Cutie
probably the biggest range of music you could get.. throw in some Orgy, H.I.M., the new Nine Inch Nails, Jimi Hendrix, Soundgarden, Bush/Gavin Rossdale, Nirvana, some Marilyn Manson...
i like rock
although if interested in that hipity hopity junk, i actually really like Fort Minor (mike shinoda from Linkin Park).. he's awesome
i love his song about his grandpa and the interment camps.. 'Kenji'.. as well as 'Red to Black' featuring Kenna.. Kenna is awesome too

Yeah, I actually posted a thread about Fort Minor a month or two ago. Kenji and Where'd You Go are both great songs.

Can you see in the future or something? Or have you just noticed his general attitude like half the other people here?

Edit: Whoops, and to contribute to the thread, System of A Down's first album (self titled) is by far the best. NIN's newest is also great, I like all of his albums, (the EPs and singles get a little old sometimes) but the earlier stuff is more gritty, which I like a lot. Some great ones from NIN are Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, The Downward Spiral, and Further Down the Spiral. And if you like older Adema, you might want to check out The Mars Volta.

Pop = Popular. If it's on MTV or the radio a lot, it gets the Pop prefix.

Coheed and Cambria's a great band, by the way. I've seen them in concert 3 times and talked with the band members in two of the shows. It's amazing that such a big guy has such a little voice.

Yeah, I saw Coheed and Cambria about a year and a half ago at Warped Tour. Ended up throwing elbows in the mosh pit that formed around me. I hate 15 year old kids.

If you like heavy music you'd be doing yourself a favor to look into underground type bands and lesser known bands who haven't sold out and signed with a big label for millions of dollars. I'm into melodic black/death metal mostly right now. The obvious choices would be Children of Bodom, Immortal, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Hypocrisy, etc. A couple possibly not so obvious bands would be Amon Amarth and Kalmah. There are others, of course, but that's what I came up with off the top of my head.

Yes, I have a varied taste. Any recommendations? Pandora doesn't work for me.

Goodness, I'm listening to one of their songs right now....

More recommendations: Coldplay, The Strokes, Interpol, Death Cab, Postal Service, Kanye West, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World..

The Deftones new cd B Sides and Rarities is very good. Anything Queens of the Stone Age. How about some Perfect Circle. And for the mellow side Interpol

paste magazine is a fun way to find new music.. they include a cd or a dvd or sometimes both bound into each issue, a real mix of all kinds of stuff, it's pretty fun. this issue has cd and dvd both, 21 tracks on the cd, short films, music videos, cnn shorts and film previews on the dvd. it's fun. it's kind of expensive but right now they're having a sale of sorts.. same money twice the issues. you can probably browse an issue at barnes and noble, that's where I found it.

Looks like we have pretty similar tastes. I really liked Avenged Sevenfold's 'City of Evil' CD. Kind of a throwback to 80's metal but still has a modern feel to it. Kanye West's stuff is good. I liked Fort Minor's debut CD. Still enjoy STP, Soundgarden, NIN, and Alice and Chains. I have an MP3 CD of STP and Soundgarden CDs that I just leave in my car on random whenver I drive a long distance.
