Need to install backup file from Konsole...how ?

Hey there,

First off, I am new to Linux (Mandrake that is). In the process of installing all this cool free software
I ended up installing the up-to-4GB kernel. Now, the system won't boot to KDE.
How do I get my backup installed from the Konsole (IE command prompt)?
Once I do that I can make sure I don't do the same mistake.

What kind of backup? Do you get errors instead of the machine booting into KDE? Have you tried logging in and typing startx? Have you tried running kdm? Any errors?

Hey there,

That "startx" thing helped. I found out it wasn't directly linked to the new "up-to-4GB" kernal.
When I tried the startx thing it came up with an error. It said the Nvidia kernal couldn't be loaded.
So, as of right now it's rejecting my Nvidia drivers. The funny thing though is I have the card setup
as a default Geforce 4 Ti4200 right now. It's enough to get into the X-server with KDE. Unfortunately,
Tuxracer (Naw, I am not hearbroken over it ) has low frames/glitchy. I assume my graphics card is not optimized
right now because of this.

When you install a new kernel you have to reinstall the nVidia drivers, if you use the non-accelerated Open Source drivers (the one's you're using now) you wouldn't have to worry about that but you won't be able to play games.

Thanks I'll try that. I think I am getting the hang of it. I will re-do the Nvidia drivers then.
Another thing I have to get working is the sound on
my TV card. I had to adjust the channel freq on each one. It was very tedious I might add.
