I recently built
Intel Core i5-2500k @ Stock w/ stock cooler
MSI P67A-C43
Seagate Barracuda Green 1TB
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 SC 2GB
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengance DDR3 1600MHz 1.5V
Diablotek PSDA600
Thermaltake V3 Black Edition w/ included TurboFan (1300 rpm, 17 dBA, 50.0 CFM)

I want to add 3 fans (maybe a more quiet fan to replace the Turbofan) preferably with blue lights on them.

I also (still at a split decision with this) if I should replace the stock intel cpu cooler for an aftermarket one.

I use this rig for gaming for the record.

Any suggestions?

how much are you looking to spend on all this? A case fan can sell for $5 a pop, or $25 a pop depending on the brand/ quality. If you need to turn down the volume, make sure you buy fans that are 4 pin (pwm) I own a couple of 120mm Scythe fans that have pwm, , but they don't have blue lights.A friend of mine owns 3 of the Antec 3 speed blue led fans, they are pretty quite on the lowest setting and move a decent amount of air, by far not the best noise / performance ratio BUT they work and are very reliable

Regarding the cpu cooler, go for the Cooler Master 212. It's cheap and it performs very well. The included fan can get noisy though, but you can replace it plus add a 2nd fan to it. I built a pc for a friend last year and used this cooler along with 2 of the Scythe fans I mentioned above.

Look at Zap's Silent Cooling overview. In short, make sure you are targeting the right things before you jump in and just start replacing fans.

that is precisely what i did - ditched the CM Hyper 212+'s stock fan for 2 Scythe SY1225SL12LM-P fans. that being said, i probably could have made the stock fan work considering its RPMs can be reduced with a fan speed profile. but i'm glad i went with the Scythe's...they rotate at about 700-800rpm in one rig, while they rotate at about 1,000rpm in my other rig - in both cases they are virtually inaudible.

also, i have no experience with that Gelid fan you linked to, but considering that its not really any quieter, moves approx. the same amount of air, and has a similar RPM range (though it won't go all the way down to 0rpm like the Scythe), i can't imagine that its really worth twice the price of the Scythe...unless you consider the LEDs and 1 extra year of warranty an additional $12 worth of value.

Making a computer quieter and cooler are, in some ways, opposing objectives. Not mutually exclusive necessarily, but you can't have the best cooling and the lowest noise at the same time.

So, which is more important? That will guide your product choice. If you're like me, the acoustic aspect is a lot more important than the cooling. I second, or third, or whatever we're at, the recommendation of the Slipstream fans, if you're willing to do without blue lights.

As for cooling, why are you worried about it? Are you pushing your components to the limit? With normal gaming, especially if you end up upgrading the heatsink, most likely not. It really doesn't hurt anything for the components to be surprisingly warm, as long as they're not getting to the point of throttling.

One option, since you run your CPU at stock clocks, would be to see if you can undervolt your CPU while still running it at stock speed. That will reduce the heat generated by the CPU, allowing your quiet cooling to work more effectively. (Which is a different approach than forcing more air through the case/across the heatsink, which cools at the expense of quiet.)

Just glancing at your rig, I suggest you take a straw and listen to the stock cooler, the GTX 560 and your PS. All 3 of those looks suspect to me as far as noise goes.

a straw? man why didn't i think of that! :O

either way though, i have 3 more slots to put fans in and also Ive been hearing that the aftermarket coolers such as the coolermaster hyper 212+ will drop 20degrees celcius off during full load. that sounds tasty to me.

im just looking for fans on tigerdirect.com for blue led 120mm fans that match the one that is already in the case.

i dont know if i should loyal up and get everything matching thermaltake with thermaltake fans and the thermaltake contact 30 cpu cooler or go with the coolermaster hyper212 and different fans.

the thermaltake contact 30 has a 120mm blue led fan on it, kind of like the one that is already in my case.

I have this magazine called the Pc Builders Bible from PC Gamer Magazine. They highly reccomended the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. Also Ive been reading reviews on tigerdirect.com (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...1&csid=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=#ReviewStart) such for that such as:

-dropped the temp on six core cpu down to 30 degrees cent.used it in full tower case.
-Ive read losts of reviews before buying this product. Let me tell you, it does not disppoint. I was saying to myself ok this product may be good but not that good. Boy was I wrong. Its inexpensive, relatevely quiet and it works. I went from around high 50s at load to barely the mid 30s on a AMD 965 BE x4. Idle stays in min 20s. I was using stock cooler. Never again. If your looking for an aftermarket cooler, you will not be disappointed with this one.
-Very Great cooler. For 25 bucks it does the job very well. First thing I don't like it blocks the first two slots of my ram, so I had to move them over. Second, the installation manual stinks! So I did a quick search on youtube and that was more helpful then the guide it comes with. If you have a low profile ram then go ahead and get this or you might run into problems. CPU Temps: Idle 20, Load 35.

but no other good reviews for the Thermaltake Contact 30 other than

-So this is a great cooler; works awesome I must say. I like the blue LED personally. Do not go smaller than a mid size case though, otherwise you'll have issues with the case cover. My only gripe is that the radiator fins (whatever you wanna call them) are a bit flimsy so be careful if your adjusting the fan. My AMD Phenom II is running at between 26 and 30 degrees C, and you MOUNT this thing to the board - no cheesy clips, but if you got an IQ above 50, instructions are easy to follow, lol.
-great cooler its a little flimsy and you have to be careful but when you get it installed it works really well. Running amd Black Edition at 3.9 at 35c idle.
-I used with 1090T x6 processor - stock everything. As long as your DIMMs are standard height on a GF980A M S I board, things clear splendidly as far as RAM. Hell of a retainer bracket, yet easy to get on and off if need be. Can be set up as push pull setup, includes fan mounts for doing so. Blue LED is so 2004, but you can either snip the LEDs, or pick some other fan. Pretty darn quiet at full blast, and also works perfect in an Antec 900 case or any with a 200cm fan on top.

I think i might just go with the cooler master hyper 212+. I am not overclocking. I just want my stuff to be fail safe.

Now all I need is suggestions for fans. Anyone help?

Found a fan that I might like.
SilenX Effizio Silent Blue LED Case Fan - 120mm
-Fluid Dynamic Bearing
-120mm Blue LED fan (1400RPM, 74CFM, 15dBA)
-$10.99 at TigerDirect.com
-http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1148930&CatId=802

Seems nice. at 15dBA,74CFM, 1400 RPM I might replace the one that is on the hyper 212+ when i get it (hyper212+'s fan is 32dba when running 77cfm)

that means i might as well replace the one that came with the case too (120 x 120 x 25 mm TurboFan (1300 rpm, 17 dBA, 50.0 CFM)

that is 5 fans total plus the cpu cooler. total should be 84.95+shipping. Sounds good

I wouldn't put too much stock into manufacturers' dBA ratings. There's not any real standardization of them like there is with some other PC specs.

That said, if you like the fan, go for it, but I might try to find some kind of independent review first.

I looked at the reviews in the review product section of the products page. Everyone says it works nicely.

"Moves lot of air and can't hear em'. Well worth the extra money. I will be ordering two more."

"Cant here it running. Cool blue lights. Great buy! Very Happy!"

Customer rating is 4.8 out of 5. Checked on youtube too and people are liking it there too. Think i found my fans
