I currently have an 120mm fan in the front, 80mm on top/center, and the typical fan on the PS. But it is really loud. I want to get Dynamat, but it is sooo expensive. I went to Home Depot, and I really didn't know what to get.

Could you guys help me out, thanks.

Egg shell crates.. you know that foam that is in the shape of.. eggs?

You could use that line the case.. almost anything you put inside the case nice and thoroughly will dampen sound

Or you could water-cool.. I got a few quiet water-cooling setups.. in about a week I will have some pics of a really sweet water-block.. and some other stuff..

Running your fans at 7 volts should help some. There are articles on how to do it, just forget where.

yes.. lower your fans to 7v.. Do that.. and you lower your CFM.. SO if you are going to lower your fans to 7v why not just remove 1?

Better yet.. make it switchable.. 7v - 12v.. that way you got total control..

So how do I make them switchable to 7v?

Also I think the egg crates will take up too much space in the computer.

Thanks.

Putting anything in your case like Dynamat will be a waste of time and money unless you can make your fans quieter too. After you get your case fans quieter by changing them out or under volting them, after you have a 20bBA-30dBA fan on your heatsink, after youget a quieter ps fan, and after your hdd is sounding too loud, then try the Dynamat or Sonex.

And the egg crates were a joke (I hope).

Use Speedfan. Are the fans connected to mobo headers? If so, you will love it! You can vary the RPM of your fan automatically based on any temp sensor. You can just set the fans to a fixed lower RPM.

I'm planning on quieting my case, too...here's what I'm doing:

-replacing 80mm antec case fans and psu fan with quieter Panaflo fans
-undervolting the newly-installed Panaflo's
-bought some B-Quiet Original, to line as much of the inside of my case with as is possible
-cutting the 'built-in' sheet-metal 'fan grills' completely, and putting nice rounded fan grills
(i am hoping that this allows the air to flow more 'smoothly', thus cutting down on air 'turbulence', thus being quieter)
-possibly installing plastic fan filters, which will hopefully help a little
-installing rubber grommets to isolate fan and hard drive vibration/noise
-installing fan hole gasket trim, again to isolate the fans (and to ensure that the hole is sealed

i think that's about it. i am hoping that all of these things together will greatly reduce the noise that my machine is currently generating. i'm also hoping to post a webpage/article about the project once i'm done (within the next few weeks hopefully), so i'll be sure to mention it here once i've got it finished.

I made myself a fan bus... total cost, approx 30$ CAD... really innexpensive...

Just get your self a few 2 position switches. I got my self 2 that were On/Off only and 3 that you could put different current on both positions. I hooked up two of my 80mm on the on/off switches, two more on the 7V/12V switches and my good 'ol Delta BlackLabel on another 7V/12V switch. All of them have lights on em to show if it's on or off (or under volted). Anyways, to get the 7V, all you have to do is cut the wire on your fan and strip the ends. Then, connect your positive (red) to the 12V line and the negetive/ground to your 5V line... tada !!! Now you've got 7V. But one important note : If you want to continue using your MB RPM sensor for your fan, only cut off the red and black wires. Leave the other one and plug it to the motherboard while the other two, you plug to a molex. I just bought a Y adapter for HDDs and used those connectors to make my molex connectors.

Just e-mail me if you got any questions...

I am going to pick up some rubber gommets at radio shack today.

I looked at some sound deadening sheets. I went to Home depot and they had some stuff that goes on the wall of your houses, anyways I can get a 8'x4' sheet for about 8 bucks. I don't know if I should, because it would be an extra 25 to buy from 2cooltek and get the stuff that is already fitted to the computer, and I'm sure it is a lot better.

Hmmmm. I don't know.

Currently, I have an aluminum filter on the 120mm, with a grill on top of that. Would the plastic be quieter?

I was going to use this, but I have an ASUS A7V133, which has the VIA Apollo KT133A Chipset.

<< just get enermax speed adjust fans. my case is full of them, and I love it! >>

I agree, I switched to these fans and it made a world of difference! I lined the inside of my case with some material you get for motor home shelves and placemats. Its like a thick mesh. Got it from Home Depot for like $2.50 a roll. It did actually help a bit. I hate the sound a fan noise bouncing off of the side of my case so that material added enough of a non reflective surface to help.
