I agree with the guys saying build your own. The name brands can sell you a package fairly cheap, but the "names" are too proprietary. A friend has a three month old HP, with a dvd-rw drive. The discs he burns won't play in his dvd player. I explained that booktyping +R discs will probably let them play (it does work). It turns out the burner is a LiteOn, which normally supports booktyping. But being in an HP computer, it has HP's firmware, which does not support booktyping. If he flashes his firmware to LiteOn firmware, which it should be anyway, it kills his warranty. This is an example of proprietary stuff you can/will run into with the name brands.
This is why I suggest that people build their own, or let a local store custom build one for you. That way, everything is the retail version, which is more upgradable. When you have a problem, the repair shop is down the street, so you're not on the phone (on hold) for an hour, with someone in India, that can't understand what you're trying to tell them. The recovery discs that come with the OS on them, for the name brands, are model specific. I've just seen too many problems with the name brands, for me to buy one.
