Need To Upgrade From 1900XP

Ok.. Upgrade time again, and I havent been keeping up.

As you can see from my signature, I have a nice system but have the cash to upgrade again, so I could use some advise.

I would like at least a 2.4 gig or XP 2400... am willing to replace the MB, CPU and the Ram but am lost with all this new FSB speeds., I am not interested in overclocking (too much of a Pain), any suggestions which way to go? AMD - INTEL..... Motherboards and Ram?

I'd stay with the AMD set up, going to a 2400+ i don't think is worth the money. I'd just replace the video card to a ATI Radeon 9700pro.

after looking at what you have i have decided to give you this advice.
keep what you have, it is in no way slow, and build a second computer. that is if you have more than $1000 to spend, since $1000 will get you what you have now.

I currently upgraded from my very old Pentium III 600 to the new Athlon thourghbred 2200+ XP. (I REALLY needed the upgrade, but you can get by without for a little while) I also upgraded my old VooDoo 5 5500 to the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, just to play UT2K3 when it came out....all in the name of the game!!! woo hooo!!! Well worth it I might add, but if you decide to wait you might as well see if the NV30 will give ATI a run for its money. (which it probably will, but by then the 9700 Pro will be sub $300, and you can get it for a bargain)

They way things are moving, you might as well just wait for the Hammer to come out. Save your $$$ and get the best. This way, when the Hammer is out, you will have saved enough up by then to get the new processor and a new Video card.

No one is flaming you for having a 1900 XP, unlike me who had the PIII 600...the pressure was too much. So wait it out and we will all be drooling over your new AMD Hammer being backed up by one of the best video cards in the world. Just set your sites on exactly what you want though, and be the first to get it. Becasue you can always wait for the newest and the best, but then you would be waiting forever.

neddog, I am still loving on my XP1900+. I won't upgrade from that chip until the Barton is released. I get plenty of fps in UT2K3 with it and my GF4 Ti 4200. What you could do is get a faster mobo with RAID, faster RAM, and another HDD (to set up a RAID 0 drive). Basically this is the upgrade path I took a month and a half ago. It has made me happy.

I will have to see what happens... my problem is that I can sell my setup right now for a decent buck hence not losing anything.... by the Sounds of it, I wont benefit much though
