anyone have any recommendations? I don't have a digital box, so I wanted to pick up the local channels through the cable.

maybe I'm not wording this right. I need an adaptor that will have a coax cable input but output a high def signal on the local channels. I've seen a couple on ebay, just looking for recommendations on which cards may be good. Basically I got rid of my TV and want to just use my monitor/computer as my TV

this should be move to the audio/video and home theater forum but as MrPickens said the divico fusion 5 is a good bet (for both atsc (antenna) and QAM (unencrypted hd over cable)). As for the 360 if you have an elite then an hdmi-dvi cable, otherwise pick up a vga adapter, both are cheaper then getting a component -> vga transcoder.

The HVR-950 does not do QAM.

The HVR-1600 does IF you have the right model number and use the beta drivers.

I'm getting the four local HD channels on mine over the cable.

I picked up an ATI TV Wonder 650 and had it all hooked up, but I only picked up like 2 channels (that looked horrid, btw) with the coax cable right straight in the back of the card. I had a better picture with the antenna, but it was still nothing to brag about

did I make the wrong choice?

Do not know about the X-Box, but I would go with the ATI HDTV Wonder. I have it, it works pretty well.

I dont want to hijack this post, but I just have a question. If I buy this card do I need a digital box to get channels? Or can I just plug in the coax cable from the cable company directly to the card and recieve channels? Will I get most or some channels?

You'll only get QAM channels- They're like 40.1, 40.2, etc etc. You won't get any of those higher up HD channels that you get with a digital cable box. If you do use a box, you won't have any way of getting an HD signal into your computer, since no tuner manufacturer sees fit to include component inputs.

I'm not sure about cable, but if you get a HDTV tuner you can pick up HD channels over the air. That is assuming you get good reception in your area.

I have an ATI HDTV wonder and it gets great picture quality and even more channels than my normal tv.

ANTENNAS for most over the air will be uterly useless for NTSC, unless you like snow and crap. I cannot get a watchable picture on my FusionHDTV card on analog, but every digital channel is 100% crystal clear and perfect......then again, I can physically see the mountain out my window
