Need VPN help

Hi,

I hope this is the right forum for this.

My church has servers running Win2K and Exchange. Some of the staff need to be able to connect remotely. The company who sold them the servers quoted them $800 to set up VPN. Since I THOUGHT VPN capability came with Server 2K, I am assuming that's labor.

Can anyone tell me where I can find instructions on how to set up VPN myself. Also, do I need any special hardware (or software that isn't packaged with Win2K server)?

Also, on the client side, what versions of Windows have VPN built in? We have a mix of Win98, WinME, Win2K and WinXP.

Do a search on Microsoft's site for VPN and Windows 2000.


Windows 2000, XP Home, and XP Professional all have VPN clients that can be installed from the CD. Windows 98 can be configured to use VPN, but it is more of an in-depth process than the newer Windows OS's.

for $800 i would suggest you get a nice firewall that includes a vpn client software. the firewall has 2 advantages, the security that your servers aren't directly exposed to the internet and the vpn software included with some firewalls are very nice and easy to config.
