Need Wireless Access Point Recommendation

I need a good wireless access point that is not ubiquiti.

I have one, and it's been nothing but problems, I presume it's defective. I haven't had much help from ubiquiti's support (they keep telling me to update this firmware, that firmware, send them new files, etc) , so I would like to buy a new one that is non ubiquiti.

I need fast and stable please.

In general almost all Tech Support of Consumer Network hardware does not a Dime.

Best is to spend sometime on Self Education of Network Hardware.

Some of the Amazon reviews for the Asus AC1200 router, claimed that at least the 2.4Ghz signal had great reach, through multiple walls, out into the garage, etc. Don't know about its 5Ghz signal.

I ordered one of those earlier tonight, then I ordered the "G" model, as the normal one apparently isn't Gigabit wired, and I overlooked that fact, when I was comparing prices. Oops.

Can I ask what model your Ubiquiti is?

My wireless died and I have had such a great experience with their Edgerouter wired router I was considering one of their AP's.

I assume you are also running them off the Unifi Controller?

That being said, you are not going to get better then ubuiquiti unless you pay for it.

Ruckus makes great stuff, a bit cheaper then straight up Cisco, but still double the price of a comparable Unifi Pro.

The problem most people have with ubiquiti is the learning curve. If you don't know much about networking, don't buy ubiquiti, they're enterprise grade hardware, without the support.

Ubiquiti is pretty easy to learn. Honestly, a standard out of the box setup is easy to put up. I am curious what issues the OP was having. And did he\she upgrade the firmware?

My wired connection is stable as a rock, it's only the access point which has the issues. Tech support transferred my case to level 2, but at this point I'm tired of it.

Which Cisco Aironet would be recommended?

You can buy any router and turn it into access point.

it maybe a bit overkill for a single family house, but its 4x4 MIMO and can handle 1.3gbps.
I hear they also have excellent signal range.
Its a real cisco brand and not linksys.

But its pricey...

I can relate to being sick of talking about it and I know from personal experience how god awful ubiquiti support is, but do you mind if I ask what kind of issues are being encountered? Is it with all devices or only certain types? I ask primarily because you may encounter the same with another solution and then you've got more gear thrown at it to deal with.

I've had 2 Engenius EAP600 - they were so-so (interface was from 2000 or earlier). Dropped clients. Replaced them with two Ubiquity UAP-AC-PRO. Very happy. They are not perfect (I hate to have Java in order to use interface). Handoff is working. Clients not dropping. They are not hard to master unless you are on "networking for dummies" level.

All connections just get dropped several times a day.
