need your suggestions!! which printer for me???

hi looking for a new printer in the $200-$250 range. my chief criteria is that is is capable of excellent photo printing and secondary use as a text printer. usb is fine and im open to all brands. any suggestions?

leftyman i like the hp 932c although its last years technology (1.5 years old)

Mine does everthing very well and has outstanding color quality

i searched pricewatch and it can be found for $139 Here

it is just a recomendation take it or leave it .

it is cheaper than what you wanted but really does beautiful printing imho

pictures are printed nicely on photo paper and text is sharp and clear !(i took pictures of my son at birth ,and had them make a kodak cd rom of them. now when i need a picture i pop the cd in and print up a few. the printer is usb or parallel)

I was looking for the same thing. I ended up, after doing quite a bit of research, narrowing it down to the Canon S630 and the HP Photosmart 1115. The Canon is supposed to be better on ink and has seperate ink cartridges so I was certain this is the one I would go with. However, after seeing both on paper I went with the HP. This printer is also a bottom loader whereas the Canon was a top loader. I like bottom loaders b/c I can leave paper in the tray w/o worrying about it bending up, etc. This printer has proven to me that an inkjet can indeed print photo quality. For best print, glossy paper is the way to go but I've even printed pretty slick photos on semi-gloss. It can also read digital camera memory cards if that's important to you.

HP Photosmarts are well regarded, especially the latest ones - some early ones had compartatively poor text printing. However after looking at the topic a bit more broadly it seems you are paying more for the gee-whiz factor of a built-in slot and on-screen menus than the print engine itself. I have seen the output and it is terrific no doubt about it, but I think you may get a better printer from a late model HP non-Photosmart.

HP is great in that you get new printer heads with each ink cart change, and the recent ones have excellent quality prints. Ink can be expensive, and they tend to be extremely slow as well.

HP is great. I've got a 970 and a G85, and I love them. The photo printing is stunning, on HP photo paper.

Here's a hoot. My GF's mom just got an HP PSC 750 all in one printer/scanner/copier for $229 at Sams. This thing has the same printer in it as the 9 series, a very good scanner, and one touch copying. It does almost everything my $450 G85 does. It's a damn steal at $229.

Another vote for HP! Great line of printers, imo. I've had great luck with them over the years (tho the LaserJet 1100 bugs me a little).

I'd say the HP 940cse or 960cse, the latter if you can afford it..
