Needing a AP in home network. UAP-AC-Lite????

I am needing to install a AP in my home network. My router, a WNDR3700v4, is on one end of the house with wood and brick walls around it. I was using a WNDR3400v2 setup as a AP. But it crapped out. I want seemless WiFi roaming throughout the house.

How well would a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-Lite AP http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Netw...71722&sr=8-4&keywords=Ubiquiti+UAP-AC-Lite+AP or the non AC version found http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Netw...71722&sr=8-6&keywords=Ubiquiti+UAP-AC-Lite+AP work for me. I already have a
PicoStation M2 and a NanoStation Loco M2 connectiong the house to a garage across the field.

I am trying to setup a old Netgear R4500 as a AP but it doesnt seem to want to play nice with my WNDR3700

Suggestions?

If you want seamless roaming, Unifi is a good way to go. But, I would get a couple or three UAPs and not use the WNDR for WiFi, just as a gateway. Set up the UAPs on a single SSID each on a different channel and use RSSI to adjust for seamless hand-off between APs. This makes for a great home setup.

I think that is what I have decided to do. 2 of the UAP-AC. Shut off WiFi on the netgear router.

What is RSSI?

RSSI is radio signal strength indication. The UAP's have a setting for minimum RSSI that will set a threshold to force a client to disconnect and reconnect to another AP. It happens very fast and works very well in my setup.

I have a UAP-AC-Pro and the range is pretty damn good. You might get away with just one of those.

I have never had any luck with a single AP in my house. Always a dead area on the far end. With 3 Roku and the multiple laptop, phones, ect. I think I'm better off with 2

You need to have the UniFi controller setup and running continuously to make use of the features on the AP-AC series. I've done the setup on a small Linux server, but it can also be run on a Mac and Windows machine. Thanks to some of the default tools on the controller, I discovered 1 streaming episode of a 4K series sucked down 4.5 GB.

No you don't. The settings on the unit are set and forget. You only need to have the controller always running if you want to do monitoring.

Plus now you can buy the cloud key which allows you to have the controller on the cloud if you want the monitoring.
