Hello..I am looking for a 19" CRT flat screened monitor to replace my 10+ year old 17" Optiquest which is dying.

How can I find other mfgrs who supply the Trinitron tube in their 19" monitors?
Thought KDS did but am not sure now.
Viewsonic does but would like to pay less than the $335 thye ask for the ri flat screen monitor.

Please help-I need the monitor to run my 3-D games.

Thank youse.

Best 19" Trinitron in my mind is the Sony CPD-G420S. MWave has it for $360 (A steal if you ask me).

Otherwise I'd recommend the Samsung 900NF.... I think it's a bit cheaper, check Pricewatch

Also... if either of those are too much, Newegg.com has the Viewsonic PF790 for $325, also flat, great picture, but I would recommend spending the extra 20 or 30 on the Samsung or Sony. After all your probably going to keep the thing for a looong time.

I'd suggest the Dell P991 with the .24mm AG stripe pitch flat trinitron tube. It's $279.20 with free shipping until the 28th of january.

I don't follow the prices, but I have NEC FE950s and FE950+s at work that are truly awesome.

<< Otherwise I'd recommend the Samsung 900NF >>

That particular monitor is not based off of Sony's FD Trinitron.

Garrulous, you definately are looking for an FD Trinitron and not just a Trinitron. Anyway, if you're sold on Sony's technology, I'd recommend getting the real deal. I could understand you wanting to save some $$$ but it's just my opinion that Sony wouldn't sell the same quality CRTs to their competitors that Sony is using themselves (royalty or not).

I've seen some KDS monitors based off the FD Trinitron and I have to say that it looks pretty bad.

If you ever had to deal with Sony tech support though... *groan*. I had two Sony F500's and one F500R. Terrible terrible tech and RMA policies. Oh the horror.

Hopefully what he means is a flat AG monitor. Right? Right!?!!?

Seriously, Sony's stuff is too expensive. DiamondTron tubes are just as good and are cheaper.

Hey, I use a P991, it's nice. Go for one of those Hitachi monitors. They're like 225 with flat screen and .21 mm pitch. Go to newegg.com I use them all the time!

I've seen some Trinitron monitors and I always find myself focusing on those 2 black horizontal lines. I eventually decided on staying away from aperture grille after reading how shadow mask actually has some benefits here.

I went for the Cornerstone 19" P1460 with 0.22mm dot pitch, up to 1600x1200 @ 85hz. I just ordered one and ended up paying 490 after taxes and shipping.

I wish I could pay less for a Trinitron and get bright colors but I don't know if I'll like the black lines in the long run.

First of all, KDS' Trinitron line of monitors have been discontinued for some time, so I cant recommend them right now. Not because KDS is not good, because I dont think it's a good idea to buy discontinued products. If you're looking strickly at a Trinitron monitor, consider Sony, believe it or not they currently have the lowest prices for Trinitron monitors, look into the G400 and G420s. If you're open to any Aperture Grille monitors, then definitely look into the forementioned Cornerstone, and Samsung.

If you don't mind buying a discontinued product, Tiger Direct has the KDS AV195 on sale for $199.

How about Viewsonic G90fb?

I find it attractive because it does 1600x1200 at 77 Hz. The Samsung 900NF doesn't go over 75 Hz at this resolution. Not to mention that it's black.

<<The Samsung 900NF doesn't go over 75 Hz at this resolution.>>

So wrong... 900NF does a maximum of 89Hz at 1600x1200, that just slaughters the ViewSonic.

<<Hello what monitor is NOT based on the SONY FD Trinitron?>>

The other type of aperture grille monitors would be the Mitsubishi DiamondTron, manufacturers using DiamondTron include Mitsubishi, Samsung, Cornerstone, ViewSonics, Iiyama, and more.

<<Thank you and has anyone ever heard of CORNERSTONE?>>

Yes, why not? Cornerstone is small, but they're famous for their professional monitor products, I wouldn't question their quality at all.

We were both wrong. I just checked the specs again and the 900NF does a max of 76 Hz at 1600x1200. It does 89 Hz at 1280x1024.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of conflicting information for what refresh rate the 900NF can handle at 1600X1200. Personally, if I try to run mine at 85Hz, it doesn't like it but my 900NF is connected to an ATI Rage 128 Pro based card.

Stick with Sony. I've had a few, and I've never had a problem.

Im confident that I'm right, because I've ran many 900NFs sucessfully at 1600x1200 90Hz(89Hz rounded up). The Samsung web sites always have conflicting information, but I know for certain this monitor is capable of at least 85Hz at 1600x1200, a PDF brochure here will confirm my claim. If that wasn't enough, the fact that the 900NF has a 240MHz video bandwidth(pixel frequency) compared to G90fb's 200MHz should explain that the 900NF is a more powerful monitor.
