I run event registration systems for several companies and small events... if you need anything to track the people that will be attending (or if there's any registration fee required), let me know and I'd be happy to be of assistance.

If it's in Chicago, I'll be there... except that I already have an event scheduled in Louisville for July 27 - August 3. :-\

Not voting on the date since it doesn't matter much to me .... I live about 1 to 2 hours northwest of the loop (depending on traffic or if I take the train, etc) I should be able to make it. Might be willing to shuttle some people to/from O'Hare.

Also, from my mother, the travel agent:

So far, all the rates I am getting are over $200 per nt.
The best so far is the Chicago Marriott in Schamburg. It is $114 plus tax per nt for the room,and $250 per day for the conference room. If we get any meals, we might be able to negotiate the conference room charge. Problem: the only way to get to the htl is taxi or rental car. No subway, etc. And the htls in Chicago or near the arpt are all over $200 per nt. Waiting to hear from a few more.

So we'll need to decide soon if we're all staying at the same hotel, or just going to rent a conference room with meals at a center.

My friend is owner and manager of BPONG, LLC (http://www.bpong.com) based out of Chicago. He said his company would be glad to sponsor the event by contributing Beer Pong tables for the day and running a Beer Pong Series Competition for those interested in playing (Bracket-based Beer Pong). Thought this would be one of many fun activities we could have at nef-con. I'm adding a poll to ask those who are going IF they would be interested in partaking in this event.

The marriott in Schaumburg is just down the road from me.
And yes, getting there from O'Hare is tough. No public transportation.
I think the cab rate is something like $29 (flat rate).

I'm not too keen on the $100+/night for hotels though. That's pretty ridiculous. Any BLM/State land or anything nearby I could camp at?



I guess one thing - we usually have a 4x4 event planned in August for my club and depending on when that is, may not work out.

Yeah, I would consider camping, too. Though I don't mind the hotel, especially since its two nights, and we'd put at least 2 to a room, so the price would be split.

What sort of things are you thinking of doing? If it's just me + bunch of ATOTers in a conference room jabbering, I'd rather not Be more interested in a ball game or doing something outdoors.

If you are going to consider camping you should consider chaperones then lolz.

If you want to waste money, that's fine with me. I see no point in paying that much for a room just for some "Nef-Con". Now if I was taking my GF somewhere, that's different. I can easily afford it. Hell I could just get a nice $300/night room. But what's the point? Waste of resources in my opinion. I'd rather do something fun with the money instead of wasting it on a stupid room to sleep in, no matter how decorative or plush or whatever. I don't care, just give me a bed under the stars and I'm fine. Just because you can't appreciate my lifestyle doesn't make me poor.

I happen to enjoy camping, and early August I would expect is a nice time to do so in that area. Camping on the lake would be fun to me, more so than staying in some hotel room. If you want to relegate yourself to that boring life, go ahead. I prefer to live a bit while I'm alive.
