Im sorry Cookie but I have to ask...what is keeping you from getting in on the fun right now? E7200 is cheap, DDR2 is relatively DIRT cheap, 8800GT......you are missing out on a whole generation of extremely inexpensive and extremely powerful hardware!!

ZOMG!

A core 2 (E8500) clocked at ~ 6GHz does super pi in mid to high 7 secs. That would be an astounding improvement... (From the link - Nehalem - SuperPI 1M Test in this case was executed in 8.328 seconds.)

The processor Core 2 duo E6750 (2.66 GHz) is this case will make the test in 15-17 seconds. If this information is accurate, then Nehalem processors in this case will prove to be two times faster than core 2. In any case , in other applications the size of advantage can be modest.

AMD had better hope.

Looks like this will be a beast, as i think everyone expected.

The real questions though:

Pricing?
Release dates?
And the big one, will we be able to OC them...

Anand had it up to 3.2 GHz but it wasn't stable above that

Guys that Nehalem SPi score was proved out to be a fake long ago (the link is to a Feb posting).

To my knowledge there are no publicly available (valid) SPi Nehalem scores at this time.

So Nehalem will only support DDR3 memory? If this is true, I will stick with the current quad-core offerings and the far cheaper DDR2 memory, which I can get 8GB of for $100 less than 4GB of DDR3.

Linky

Not exciting enough for its own thread... but look at how many 3rd party vendors have products ready to go

Is highly possible that Vcore is incorrect since the VID encoding varies depending on the core type (e.g. Prescott vs Core) and other factors (desktop CPU Vs mobile CPU)

Kinda impressive to me that soooo many vendors have had Nehalems in hand (in order to create and debug their mobo's) and yet there have been virtually zero benchmarks leaked to the web. Intel certainly has kept this under control to an impressive degree.

CPUz doesn't read VID it reads Vcore. Coretemp reads VID.

That's not to say that CPUz is correctly reading Vcore of course.

I bet CPUz is correctly reading Vcore but the chip was idle and as such Vcore was set to the appropriate VID as specified by the chip's sleep states. It'll be a mystery until it isn't.

Interesting that everyone else decided to go with a familiar chipset and RAM slot placement, but Intel just had to be different .

Some of those look completed and ready for retail...someone needs to ninja-raid that Nehalem-wall and get ahold of a chip too .

berta would mean she's ugly large, and fat.

Honestly the AMD board is much prettier.
Its the M3A-MVP. I personally think aesthetically AMD has nicer stuff.

ISIS was the transporter for RA to the underworld. Sorry the underworld is too small with persephone down there already.

Erinyes <--- hmmmm... amber you might have hit the nail on that one. I wonder why i didnt think of that.

The godess of vengence. LOL sounds like AMD.

Astute observation, as usual. There are two reasons to stress how serious you are re: NDA with your partners:

1. Your company's future depends on the product, and the product stinks to high heaven
2. The new product is SO much better than any existing product that any credible leakage would seriously jeopardize current sales

Considering Intel is currently far in the lead #2 seems most likely. This chip could very well live up to the hype.

I absolutely agree.

Anyone else catch the xbitlabs rumor of a planned slowdown of the desktop mainstream Nehalem release?

Transition for Next-Generation Micro-Architecture on Desktops Will Take Longer for Intel ? Rumours.
Ramp of Intel Nehalem Micro-Architecture Processors Will Take Longer Than Expected Originally

In order to boost its competitive positions on the market of servers, Intel Corp. reportedly plans to slowdown the ramp of microprocessors with code-named Nehalem micro-architecture on the market of desktop computers. Moreover, the code-named Lynnfield and Havendale processors, which are aimed at mainstream and performance markets, are now only scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2009.

I'm not positing this xbitlabs speculation as true or untrue, I am positing it as undeniably plausible.

The last paragraph was a rather interesting take. Has there been an earlier platform manufactured of this magnitude?

How do you mean? If you're referring to the sizable design differences, then the transition to Rambus based Pentium4 systems was just as much of a jump. Besides, the pictures from the Inquirer article show that motherboard & chipset manufacturers are ready to go.

The rumor has been around for a bit - especially since Intel and AMD released their last roadmaps. Both are much slower and stretched out than the previous editions.
