According to this X-bit Labs Article Nehalem will be delayed, by how long ???

Not a lot of meat & Potatoes here, mostly conjecture. Either lack of competitive pressure or some unexplained technical issue or problems getting all the ducks (MB, Sockets, DDR3, Chipset) in a row.

No surprise here.

There's no reason [aka competition] for them to rush this anyway, so i almost expected this.

Although I am loving my Intel machines, I am still hoping for a competitive chip from AMD in a 360 view, not just the speed at even which Intel reigns faster, atm.

Although I really want to Nehalem to be released soon, from Intel's perspective this makes perfect sense.

From what I've been reading, the chips that motherboard manufacturers have received (and the ones that AT has tested) don't reveal the true potential of Nehalem. Intel isn't anybody's fool- it's learned its mistakes from the Netburst days and won't tip its hand to AMD so easily again (especially since it knows that Shanghai is coming out soon). Yes, this is a bad move for PR with enthusiasts, but from a business point of view it is logical: a few ultra high-end Nehalems in late Q4 08 while selling off Penryns and letting AMD have its day with Shanghai before flooding the market with Nehalems.

mmmm .... might be the other way around

AMD unveils two-, eight-way Opterons clocked at 2.5GHz
Tech Report
by Cyril Kowaliski
June 9, 2008

Since its late arrival in April, AMD's quad-core Opteron lineup has been missing one key element: chips clocked at the same speeds as the fastest desktop Phenom X4 CPUs. No longer. AMD has rolled out four new Opteron SE processors with clock speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz?just like the Phenom X4 9750 and 9850.

The new Opteron SE line includes 2358 SE, 2360 SE, 8358 SE, and 8360 SE models. The first digit in the model name denotes the maximum number of supported sockets, while the last two digits denote clock speed. x358 models run at 2.4GHz, while the x360 parts are clocked at 2.5GHz. AMD doesn't appear to have revealed thermal envelopes for these chips yet, but their desktop counterparts are rated for up to 125W. Prices are $873 for the 2358 SE, $1,165 for the 2360 SE, $1,865 for the 8358 SE, and $2,149 for the 8360 SE.

According to AMD, these new CPUs are already "widely available," and servers based on them are on their way from "global OEMs and solution providers including Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Dell and IBM."

I can see why they'd hold off on the consumer chips, I'm a bit more surprised they'd hold off on MP server parts given the ridiculous advantage that comes from finally moving away from the FSB in those situations.

Intel lineup is very strong and they could very well release Nehalem Q2 of 2009

I half expect this as well. At most they'll release a low end chip with everything locked and then release the big guns when amd shows their hand.

Man I thought this might have some merit until I seen it was an analyst That made the call. Doug freeman no less. Google what Freeman said about K10 befor its release. LOL!

Doug is way confused here. He states that Intel may only deliver highend parts at the end of 08. Were is this news to us we already been there done that.

As for Freemans Nehalem 8 core in o8. I would really like a link to were its in any road maps . Its isn't never was , What a retard this guy is . Analyst or weathermen same thing all guess work with personaal bias thrown in for good measure . LOL at X-Bit for posting this. They already new all of this as did we lol lol.

Food for thought... stretching out releases also delays the next-next-generation. The way the most recent roadmaps from both companies play out, being slow continues to work out just fine for Intel for several years to come.

However, XBit only rehashed a story written by EETimes. Follow the link back, and you find that they left out an important quote:
http://www.eetimes.com/showArt...ml?articleID=208402829
'Our long stated position has been that Nehalem will be in production in Q4 '08,'' according to a spokesman for Intel, in response to the report. ''We are on track for that. There has been no change.''

So one analyst felt like making headlines. He may just be a fool.

This part. So one analyst felt like making headlines. He may just be a fool.

Or he could be trying to push stock prices in 1 direction or another for a friend so they both can share the profits off his BS. Freeman has worked very hard up to the release of K10 to prop up AMD's share price. I know. I stood to gain or lose depending on what was written.

You can go to jail for market manipulation. Good luck with that!

We might need to merge threads into an "official Nehalem speculation" at some point, as someone else just started a new one that says the exact opposite of this one.

I think you guys are missing the 'meat and potatoes' ...

?Our checks suggest Intel?s Nehalem server parts will initially launch in single-socket only, which we believe will be viewed by customers and investors as a delayed ramp of the company?s second generation 45nm server architecture due out in late 2H ?08."

8-way Quad Opty's are now loading up the channel if you believe Tech Report. This is a pretty big deal in server process and system VMs - leaves Intels with 4p quad Xeons on s771 with FBDIMMs and a big hole until MP Nehalem.

Considering the delay(s) we saw with Penryn/Yorkfield, there's absolutely no reason Intel should rush out Nehalem if they aren't ready for it as AMD certainly hasn't given them any reason to rush things.

I know I am in the minority here but I am kind of glad is is being pushed back. It has only been 3-4 months since I built this rig. If nehalem(mainstream version anyways, not extreme chips) came out this spring my wife would probably divorce me if I rebuilt that soon.

oh its not that bad.

I bought DDR2 1066 for 400 dollars. The following month later that exact same ram dropped to 100 dollars. And now you can get it for 40 dollars on rebate.

What about also my First kentsfield at 600 dollars and having it drop to 400 1 month later, and then having the infamous G0 steppings come out 2 months after that with a new price tag of 200.

As for Neha, i already started a fund on it. I expect it to be 2x the price of perseph. :\

Man, got quite a bit more to go in that fund. :\

Yep just ask Martha stewart about inside information. Fact is the Market is so manipulated it isn't even funny. Cut out the Middle man in commmodities and the market will be less a miss . Look at what the middle man has dune to the Oil prices . Do really believe that the housing bubble burst (AGAIN THE MIDDLE MAN) and the new price of oil is seperate event. NO way . The Middle man again . Inflates all pricies Markets go down the Big houses (banks) recover the money lost in the housing bust. Who loses if the banks gain in a down market . Check out your 401K for the ans. The markets are so crooked its laughable.
The people dening it are the over paid people in the industry who benefit from such actions . Only fools get caught.

not speaking racially here.

But Increase in GAS prices has more a due effect that China is now booming and there industrial sector is on overdrive. (in perspective, think USA which was on sleeping mode, wake up and consume on overdrive)

It has nothing to do with middle man. Just more demands on oil, hence higher prices.

anyhow Nemisis, lets keep politics and economy outside bro, unless it pertains to computers.

We dont want to confuse the babies.

We believe this may be viewed as the second launch delay in recent weeks and is likely to call into question Intel's solid record of on-time execution,? said analyst Doug Freedman of American Technology Research, reports EETimes web-site."

"It is interesting to note that chief executive officer of Intel, Paul Otellini, said last year that the company would ship octa-core Nehalem processors in 2008, whereas now Intel claims that the firm will be able to produce code-named Bloomfield quad-core implementation of Nehalem design this year."

It was always said that Nehalem Extreme versions will be released late this year, then the mainstream versions will come next year. This article is just saying only single parts will come out.

Unless you are planning to get octo-core/dual CPU configurations, nothing changed.

And, the ONLY octo-core implementation of Nehalem is Beckton, which is a ultra-high end server part that will cost thousands of dollars.

I don't think its a delay at all. The high end server parts always come a year late(not including dual socket parts, but the true MP chips).
