I would be very surprised if what the neighborhood suspects is true. But regardless of the legitimacy of their (your) suspicions, the fact that the neighbors have started talking is something you need to deal with. I would probably go to the other asian neighbors (someone who can communicate with the new neighbors) and say something along the lines of: "some folks in the neighborhood have started speculating about some pretty serious stuff regarding the new neighbors. I haven't seen anything to convince me of this, but I'm worried that someone will do something rash. I'd like to get this cleared up so everybody can move on. would you help?"

A) I seriously doubt that cat meat tastes good. Some breed of dog are supposed to have good tasting meat, but I've never heard of tasty cat meat.

B) There wouldn't be an unusual odor from cooking cats.

C) *IF* cats were tasty, or they liked the taste of cats, then keep your cats indoors. If you had a pet rabbit or squirrel that you let roam my neighborhood, I can all but guarantee it'll be eaten. (MMMMMmmm)

It is simply a situation that is out of the ordinary as we know it. It you left out the ethnicity, we would all say WTF, that's one F?d up family that eats the neighborhood cats! What else is out of the ordinary? How about the Asian family sitting on the front porch of their broken-down house. The screen door is hanging off the hinges, small dirty white fridge on porch next to the sofa, a 1962 Ford pickup with no wheels in front yard, and small Asian boy pickin the banjo. Well I am not surprised at all. It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the very accusations were clearly spurned by racist thoughts.

is your neighborhood predominately white? from the way you and your neighbor act, it sure seems that way. if they are the only family that's asian, i don't think they would eat cats even if they wanted to, they are not stupid to do that to be hated on by whites.

just by the way..koreans eat dogs, not cats...

And dog isn't even all that popular in korea..it's just another dish.

Well, for sure, only one. My ex-father in law. And if he did it, it wouldn't suprise me if many of the family members did it to. I'll ask my ex-gf to see if it's only her father that eat cat in the family.

Probably because going to their local animalery/petshop to buy cats every weeks would look suspicious over time and they thought that stealing/taking errant cats wouldn't be.
