this thread is pretty racist. eating cats/dogs is at most , a fringe group in asia which is about as common as people in the United States eating rabbits. however, white people like to perpetuate this myth to make fun of asians, while circulating pictures of these. You don't see asians circulating pctures of white people fvcking goats around China, do you? The stereotype exists for the purpose to belittling asians, and has become so freak'in ingrained in American white society that fvcking white people are always asking me "OMG, DO YOU EAT DOG MEAT?!?!"

"maybe they are traping strays and taking them to the pound"

Reiterations of this have been said many times.

I believe what they are saying is that those people are trapping animals that keeping straying (seem like strays, possibly no collar) and sending them to pound. I also believe this is legal if cat keeps trespassing (owner not in control of animal).

I dunno if its legal but its a pretty assholish thing to do without asking around.

He did also say MOST of the neighborhood cats are missing. Thats a cause for alarm. I'm not saying its the Asian neighbor but something has to be going on.

A bunch of cats just don't all disappear without a trace (body, corpse etc.).

Who knows.....that'd be some sh1t if those people ended up eating all those cats. But if I were him, I'd keep my cat indoors for the time being.

Like someone said earlier, this reminded me exactly of King of the Hill when khan moves in. Anyways, this thread is pretty offensive. All the evidence seems second or third hand. Cats going missing and weird smells as evidence is pretty meaningless. I've lived with Asian cooking all my life and I still find new 'dishes' that smell like crap and beyond this world. I guess it's gotta be cat or dog since it smells weird...

Anyways, this actually sounds 'similar' to something that happened to my house with some jackas*es who decided to harvest our entire crop of Asian melons. No one else in the neighbourhood knows what to do with them since they come from the Asian recipe book. As far as I know, they aren't as popular as "bak chuoy" ('white vegetable' directly translated). Note that they weren't trashed, they were carefully picked and hauled away.

I hope that a lot fewer people eat cats than the number of people who eat rabbit in the US. Rabbit is quite common in upscale restaurants.

I doubt so. China is a pretty big country full of people.

And for all the asians people replying on this topic that the guy is racist and that chiness people don't eat cats. I'm pretty curious if you've ever been in China. And for those who are chiness and come from china, how many of you DO come from a small town ( no more than 1.000.000 of population) where this kind of "practice" is more likely to be common than it is in Beijing or Shanghai?

Why is it an asian family? If it was a white family, would u have said that?

Let these stereotypes die.

Most stereotypes come from actual fact.

Have you ever heard of white people eating cats?

Now if it were a French family and that people were worrying about their frogs beeing kidnap and beeing eaten, would you cry out loud for racism or stereotypes? After all french do eat frogs ( I know I'm french canadian and I eat french cuisine including frogs, which is pretty good btw). But like chiness with cats its not every single french person on the planet who eat them and many of them( the french) do find eating frogs(it's just the legs btw not the whole frog) disgusting.

It's so stereotypical, yes, which is why im asking. Stereotypes comes from somewhere and alot are true, just not every case. And its an asian family because they are asian.

I didnt say oriental or anything offensive. Is asian family offensive now?

Yes this is ATOT. You can't say anything about Asians. You need to get with the picture.

Feel free to mock blacks though.

Anyways just be friendly and try to get invited inside. If you see anything call the cops.

I think everyone is too quick to jump on the racism bandwagon. Stereotyping, yes. He came to the forums seeking more information. He gave us the information that we would find useful. Describing a family as "Asian" in the circumstances seems fine. Cats missing seem to go missing soon after new family moves in, this family happens to be Asian, which has a stereotype of eating cats. I'm not saying that the stereotype is right, its probably very wrong, but how is the stereotype to be dispelled unless someone asks? Jumping down his throat with "omgz racist" doesn't add anything except angst. If you could just let him know that it?s a very old stereotype, and that cats aren?t eaten except in <someplace> and <some other place>.

I admit I didn't know how much of a stereotype it was. I come from Maine where in a plaza there was a restaurant called "Asia" with a big silhouette of a dog. I know a dog isn't a cat but both are pets. So that doesn't help me dispel the stereotype at all. I also had a friend that ate baby chickens, would get special eggs and cook them then crack the egg and eat the baby chicken inside, he said it was good and that the left over juice (placenta) was the best part. These two things have reinforced the stereotype (to me) that Asians eat weird (to me, again so I don't PO anyone  ) food.

My point is: How are we to dispel the stereotypes if no one asks? Also, don't be so hostile, I sense no prejudice with the OP, educated in what actually goes on, along with myself, no, not so much. At most call him uneducated in their culture, but not a racist.

One man's pet is another man's lunch.
Keep the cats inside, where they belong.
No one in an urban setting needs to keep mice, rats or squirrels out of the grain keeps anymore.

This is one of the oldest stereotypes still polluting our nation. I think it ranks right up there with Scots / Irish screwing sheep. To wit, yeah, there may have been incidents of this happening in the past, but today, it's not likely to be happening in real life as much as in some ignoramous's mind.

I don't think he or anyone else is arguing that they keep the cat out to prevent rodents. These sort always argue that it's better for the cat because the cat "enjoys" it.

because he's racist and wants to take every opportunity to belittle other cultures by specifically mentioning them in demeaning situations

Everyone has made a racist remark at one time or another so calling someone racist should no longer be an accusation.

Anywho if you havent made a racist remark or thought of something racist you will eventually. Even if it comes out because you are pissed off and claim "You didnt mean it".

not to say one way or another, but this is a true story-

growing up in a suburb of NYC, there was a neighboring town that had a large duck population in a pond near some stores and they were dissappearing...well they started looking into it an sure enough one of the stores was a chinese restaurant that was catching the ducks cooking them and serving them

FRESH DUCK!

Thing is you have no proof. You are assuming and are about to call the cops based on your assumptions? None of your potential hints of them eating the cats makes sense. The fact that you are assuming based on their race makes the difference.

Im not gonna be like "ARREST THEM OFFICER. THEY ARE ASIAN CAT EATERS!!!"

NO. I would just call to inform them what people have said and that there may be animal cruelty in my neighborhood. Maybe theyll put a cop on the look out. Theres no harm to it.

If i wanted to be an a-hole , i would have already thrown chicken bones all over their yard. It's not wrong to be suspiscious of something if more than 3 trusted people give me their word on something.

A bunch of my neighbors are complaining about an asian family that moved in down the block . Alot of weird smells come from their house. I know their cooking is different but i dont mind so much, but everyone has been worried now that most of our neighborhood cats have gone missing including two from close neighbors. I am thinking of calling the police after what they told me, just to check. A few say they have seen them actually pick up cats and take them inside their home.

I feel bad calling the police to accuse them, should i let someone else do it? I just really dont want my cat to be stolen.
