BTW, I suggest holding a block party and inviting everyone. Label all the food at the buffet tables to include "cat" somehow (i.e., hot cats, catburgers, potato catsalad, feline beans, etc.) and make sure no one goes near it. If the asian family digs in and can't get enough, call the cops.

My grandma leaves food for cats, mostly so as to not to waste food, but it ends up leaving an army of strays always being around the house. Creeps me out. Just because they're leaving food doesn't mean they're luring. God-forbid they should care for animals and not want food to go to total waste.

As far as smells, what makes you think cooked cat smells different from anything else? I doubt anyone cooks enough of anything to send a smell through a neighborhood.

Could they be burning incense? Or brewing weird teas? Or just using too much of some home remedy?

Most houses I know have a smell, usually from the cooking, but it's always distinct from anything. I.e. even a house that makes all chinese food 24x7 isn't going to smell like your local chinese restaurant. Do american households that live off of burgers/fries smell like Mcdonald's? No.

The chinese restaurant (don't know if I spelled that right I always get it wrong) next to my house was suspected of doing something like this because there were always a ton (read 20 or 30) cats around the dumpster of my apartment complex. About once a week most of the cats would disappear only to be replaced by new cats.

One of the neighbors (read crazy bag lady) kept complaining until the cops had to do something. The cops investigated came in and found no evidence. Case closed.
