So we are new to this neighborhood. The first thing that we noticed were two dogs roaming around freely in the neighborhood. I don't know why type of dogs they are, but they look like chows.

I also have a medium-sized cocker spaniel that I keep enclosed in the lanai/patio area, but I always walk him outside whenever he needs to do his business. I also pickup his poop afterwards.

We are new the neighborhood, so we don't really want to start any fights. What's the best thing we can do to handle this situation?

Also, I looked out the local county ordinance and found this:

SECTION 10. CONFINEMENT TO PROPERTY; DOGS AND CATS AT LARGE; EXCEPTIONS

Excluding public right-of-way on an owner's private property, no DOG or CAT shall be allowed to stray, run or go, AT LARGE upon any public property or street, sidewalk, park, or on the private property of another without the consent of the property owner.

Any CAT that is outdoors while not under DIRECT CONTROL must be STERILIZED.

Any DOG or CAT that is on private property without the consent of the property owner or resident may be captured in a humane trap or otherwise HUMANELY confined. PERSONS capturing AT LARGE DOGS or CATS will be responsible for the humane care of the ANIMAL until the captured ANIMAL is turned over to the DEPARTMENT, other humane organization, or licensed wildlife trapper. A PERSON shall not entice a DOG or CAT to become AT LARGE for the purpose of trapping or apprehending when that DOG or CAT would otherwise not be AT LARGE.

No PERSON shall under any circumstance TETHER or otherwise CONFINE any ANIMAL in a manner that is injurious to its health.

In order for a dog or cat to be allowed on a public street, road, park or other public property, excluding public right-of-way on an owner's private property or unless otherwise specifically permitted, the dog or cat shall be under the direct control of the owner or keeper, except while hunting pursuant to permit or during a legitimate obedience demonstration, show, trial, training exercise, competition, show and/or match or educational program, so long as proper precautions are taken by the owner of the dog and/or sponsor of the event to insure the safety and protection of both the public and other animals.

So I guess I can also call Animal Control, huh?

Same thing happens to me, only the dogs don't roam. The owners let their two precious yorkies out a couple times per day and watch them sh!t on my yard and then don't clean it up.

Been thinking about stockpiling my 100lb dog's crap for a week and dumping it on their backyard en masse.

I think the only mature thing to do is put the poop in a brown paper bag... put said bag on neighbor's front door, light bag on fire, and then ring door bell.

Problem solved

I have the same problem at my apartment complex.
We have a rule that only dogs under 30lbs are let in.
Thats been broken by almost everyone living here except me.
We also have a rule saying all dog owners must pick up their animals' messes.
That rule is also being ignored completely.
I wonder if maybe when this place fills up and their are still people crying to get in then maybe the management will start upholding their own rules.

In the meantime, pepper over the grounds does wonders.

Heh, wonder if SAM clube sells bulk pepper.

Another option is something called a scare crow. Its an motion sensing sprinkler head. some bury a pvc pipe and do a permanent install. Doesn't sound like an option in cold weather unless you do something crazy like tie it to a pressure tank with some antifreeze in it. (natural)

good luck.

While its appealing to do the 'poop for a poop' thing, or the 'burning bag of poop' trick, they aren't really ways to solve either problem.

IMO go talk to your neighbor and let them know that its against local laws for them to let their dogs roam the neighborhood, and that you don't appreciate the dogs crapping in your yard.

If the neighbor doesn't control their dogs, call animal control and report 2 stray dogs prowling your neighborhood. Repeat as needed.

If animal control takes too long to respond or whatever, simply capture the dogs when they are on your property then call animal control and turn them over when the slowpokes show up. Be sure to treat the animals humanely while they are in your custody.

Dogs like to poop where there is a familiar scent. If you start flinging it back into your neighbors yard and treat yours with the pepper flakes or whatever it might go a long way towards keeping your yard clean.
