HOUSTON -- Lightning was blamed for sparking a northwest Harris County house fire.
Fire officials said a 17-year-old girl was home alone in the house in the 8200 block of Groveland Hills at Dawson Oaks Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. when severe weather moved in and lightning hit the house, starting a fire in the attic.
The girl escaped unharmed, however two firefighters were injured, officials said.
"We had two firefighters injured on scene, treated on the scene and transported," said Robert Rasa with the Cy-Fair Fire Department.
One suffered a knee and ankle injury after falling from a rafter and another was overcome by smoke, fire officials said. Both are expected to be OK.
The second floor of the home received extensive fire and water damage.
"We had significant fire damage to the attic and upstairs. We had significant water damage downstairs, so it's about an 80 to 85 percent loss," Rasa said. "It took us awhile to get the fire contained. It spread pretty quickly through the attic."
The family's cat was rescued by Cy-Fair firefighters.
