Most people are so ignorant that they are not even aware that they are using some one else Access Point.

Many people buy Wireless laptops and they do not know that you need your own Wireless source, they come home switch the computer On and get into the Internet not even knowing that Internet is Not like Radio, or TV. available free in the air. They are genuinely unaware that they are actually ?Stealing? bandwidth from someone else.

Therefore, a knowledble person that knows how to use encryption to block his connection wants to write/use the above, he should have the guts to admit that he has some kind of personality disorder rather than use the excuse, ?My neighbors are stealing my wireless internet access?.

Nah, I only run 128 bit WEP because the 802.11b card in my laptop doesn't support WPA...I live around a bunch of engineering students. I'm well aware that WEP is easy to crack; it took only an hour when I tried it on my own AP.

I'll keep this in mind if the need arises

We use the DHCP server to identify mac addresses to give out the relevant addresses

So the "security" here comes down to a form of MAC address filtering. Yeah, we know how great that is...

This seems to me to be all around a pretty dumb idea. It's weak defensively, and actually a potential source of much fun for kiddies who want to be offensive. Some routers can run iptables.

hey, mac filtering is good. It takes me over 30 seconds to sniff a valid mac and put it into my own!

btw, this is old news, but good stuff. I'm thinking of doing this at work as a gag on april fools day

Pretty much. We had a VP of HR who brought her laptop home and complained she didnt get internet on her wireless connection. Duh, lady you need a wireless router.

But the idea is sweet. Your neighbour is online via your router. Who controls the router and the informations that goes through it? Yessss....

Rite. Sounds like Unix base. If someone knows how to script this, they would not let their neighbour to steel the connection unless to fool the neighbour with open excess with no encryption!

sounds better!
