What Tyson said:

Here’s what happens. George Bush, within a week of [the 9/11 terrorist attacks] gave us a speech attempting to distinguish we from they. And who are they? These were sort of the Muslim fundamentalists. And he wants to distinguish we from they. And how does he do it?

He says, “Our God” — of course it’s actually the same God, but that’s a detail, let’s hold that minor fact aside for the moment. Allah of the Muslims is the same God as the God of the Old Testament. So, but let’s hold that aside. He says, “Our God is the God” — he’s loosely quoting Genesis, biblical Genesis — “Our God is the God who named the stars.”

The actual quote by Bush - in response to the Shuttle Columbia disaster:

In the skies today we saw destruction and tragedy. Yet farther than we can see, there is comfort and hope. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power, and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

The same Creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth; yet we can pray that all are safely home.

Basically just sounds like Tyson is another liberal victim of BDS. And like most liberals, being a liberal takes priority over anything else, e.g. being an objective scientist.
Those seem to be two different speeches, and I assume two different people (Sr and Jr). What did Jr. say after 911?

Why do conservatives not like people who are smarter than them? It seems like as a genral rule they tend to publicly promote ignorance and stupidity at every opportunity. I can not understand this.

Actually, I think all politicians do this, it helps them get re-elected. No politician wants a smart voter for the same reason no lawyer wants a smart juror, they might figure out they are being bullshitted.

I like people who have working bulshit detectors who will call me out when I am making shit up. People who believe nonsense are so frustrating.

FTFY.

A handful of liberals that are regulars here are some of the dumbest people I've ever encountered that wear failure, helplessness, envy and bitter douche-baggery like badges of honor, but leave it to leftists to think they're actually smarter than everyone else.

Is there any evidence of fabrication other than "investigate journalism" from The Federalist? I'm not sure you can be taken seriously if your whole premise is based on the legwork of partisan web sites. It's like getting your news direct from Foxnews.com or Huffington Post's feed; you can get good info, but you have to sift through a buttload of horseshit to get anything good.

I don't understand the poll options.

First off: Who gives a crap about Wikipedia? And skimming through the article, I don't see any evidence anything was made up, so why should I believe you?

“As someone who writes and publishes for a living, I take exception to people who go out and make money based on fabrication.”
Hopefully soon he will write about how he takes exception to Republicans because they lie their asses off all day, every day, and make their livings off of them.

The federalists' proof that his headlines are fabricated is just because google can't find it?
Don't conservatives have "faith" in things they can't proove? Do they know that not every written word in the world is on google? Did they read every every newspaper in the US? Newspapers don't put every article on the web.

I did a search for the newspaper quote in google and got this:

http://memegenerator.net/instance/36760447

Either someone else saw it too or they are quoting NDT. They do mention it being a Maryland headline so perhaps this person has more information than the federalist.

Did someone say they didn't like people who are smarter than them? I must have missed that post. Or is this something you imagine to be true based on someones disdain for the arrogant who walk among us? Furthermore, is it rational to take what one imagines to be true in an isolated case and extrapolate this "truth" to broadly smear an incredibly large group of people?

Agree...public displays of ignorance and stupidity are not pretty.

I call you on your bullshit and raise you two turds.

I don't despise him. Some conservatives do because he tends to lean liberal, and as the daily beast article says he smacks of the Bill Maher-esque "I'm smarter than you" attitude which also annoys conservatives.

But anyway, that's not really the question. A scientist of his celebrity shouldn't be resorting to fabricating quotes to make his point.

He's a friggen astrophysicist, of course he is smarter than them (and me). Are there really politicians dumb enough to believe that they are the smartest people alive?

As far as him being a liberal, I have watched as much of his stuff as I can find, and continue to do so and "liberal" isn't the first thing that pops in my head. Unless they are using the "we should double NASA's funding from half a penny per tax dollar to a whole penny per tax dollar" thing he supports, which I do as well, against him.

The article author would have NDT figuratively burned at the stake for false quoting while he is engaged in nothing more than "Look what I found!! Grrr grrr! Outrage!!" journalism.

I also find the false quotes a little troubling and a valid issue but you're not going to get NDT or anyone else in the public spotlight to change their ways by writing sensationalist stories about their speaking style.

It all depends on your ultimate goal; writing inflammatory articles to push up your readership numbers/gleaning website hits for your publisher or pointing out discrepancies to your subject and asking them to be more accurate.

I was kind of curious who the hell would bother fact checking the stuff that has been cited so far. It's all rather irrelevant to, well, just about anything in the world. I assume the author was simply trying to dig up dirt and if this is the best they can do NDT must be pretty damn clean.

He's also said when Republicans are in office we get more science funding. That's hardly something a democrat would say.

He was giving a speech.... Frankly I highly doubt that you are even remotely qualified to dispute the actual science that he has done nor did I see any mention of an accusation that his politics have ever influenced his science.

Could you please provide examples of him not being objective in the actual science he has done due to him being a liberal. Please provide proof of said science being wrong, thanks.

BTW, since you know so much about him, what makes you call him a liberal? I am truly curious.

But but but he made fun of Republicans a little bit when he said it. Something to the sort of "one thing no Republican wants to do is die poor".

Wasn't he an adviser to Bush?

depending on your measure of average, half of something (even if you're taking the whole population as a sample) can easily be below average...
