Wanting to try new things, jumping into things, impulsive, lack of planning, ect are all kind of traits of a certain personality type. He's not necessarily 'bad' because of those things. He may end up being one hell of an abstract-thinking problem-solver.

Basically, I see you kinda describing me as a kid, although I don't think I was too 'delusional' over what I was or was not good at. That also probably psychologically fucked me up, though ('invalidating environment' and such). So don't be too hard on him if he's a) trying to learn something without being forced and b) isn't hurting anyone.

How old are we talking here, anyway?

When I hear that clip I think of the "Retarded" rapper on It's always sunny in philadelphia. Only problem was the retarded rapper wasn't really retarded (debatable) and his music didn't totally suck. Your nephew however appears to be retarded and I truly believe with all my heart that a retarded person could make a better song.

Stay safe.

I've heard Shatner singing Rocket Man.
I've heard Starship singing We Built This City
I've heard the Baha Men singing Who Let the Dogs Out
I've heard Vanilla Ice, Air Supply, Hanson and Billy Ray Cyrus

But I've never heard anything as bad as your nephew. If that's a joke it's a good one. If he's being serious and thinks that count as music he needs to be locked up for his own good and for the betterment of all mankind.

Wait. You're not going to tell us that he's handicapped later and make us feel bad are you?

Anyone who hears this is going to think it's terrible. It's embarrassing to listen to and I'm not even related to him.

You never know, he could end up on tosh.0 like Krispy Kreme.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plPsnWFng0w (NSFW)

I actually pointed that out to my wife, but the thing is KK didn't sound half bad

I think he's just amazed he's able to layer sounds together, and thinks that's all it takes to make music (and from the state of the music industry...a lot of people seem to think that).

He's got like 20 other recordings that sound just as bad if not worse.

There's a huge difference between being a little kid trying to be cool and just sounding god awful.

You're insane. That video's full of awesome and win, and the music's tolerable. If nephew improved his music by 9000%, he still wouldn't be in eyesight of that :^D

Oh I agree that he's not even close Awesome and win though?

He's 19. Not sure if he'll make 20 the way he lives.

He'll just have to learn on his own.
That faith he has in himself is a good thing.
I would be honest with how you feel about his work, but I would also encourage him to keep going if that's really what he wants. Tell him he can't just ask for a record deal though. He's got to get out there and do it live. The real world will let him know what's up.

Do you have a paypal address?

How many donations would it take for us to gain access to the rest of these performances?

How old is he? This may sound a bit presumptuous, but I do believe I relate to this guy pretty good. It sounds like he doesn't want to accept life for what it is, so he lives in a fantasy world and won't settle for anything less than who he thinks he is. People here said it many times already. Rock bottom baby, he needs it. Sometimes it happens at age 16, or age 50, or sometimes it never happens and life is an endless struggle until they die.
By trying to help him you might actually kill this person. Detach from him and let him drive this bitch until the wheels fall off.

EDIT: I saw 19. Oh dear...he needs to run out of options and ideas quickly and hes got plenty of time to think of a new "plan" over and over and over again.

does soundcloud have comments for music, were people can give him their opinions?

But in all honestly he has to figure it out himself he is bad. I hope he can take care of his two babies coming and not produce anymore kids.

nothing you can do. life will give him a wake up call soon.

That or he will carry on into his 30's thinking it's "everyone else" who doesn't get it, and slowly back himself into isolation because nobody will be able to stroke his ego enough to maintain his current view.

... He's one of those people that has natural rhythm and can pick up a lot of instruments easily.

The problem is, he doesn't like structure and he just dives into things. You can't play along with him on guitar because he can't keep time. Same with drums. He can play keyboards but has no idea which notes are where. He just does his own thing because it's easier.

You, as a teacher, obviously have a lot to learn if you can't see the contradiction in your own words.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. He needs to perform in front of people and get feedback before going straight to recording.

That's kids today.
