nero 5.5.1.8 help with a plextor 16/10/40 drive!!!

running nero 5.5.1.8 with a plextor 16/10/40. everytime i start to make a cd it freezes and locks up my computer. any ideas or help??? what version of nero are you running and not having any problems???

Try uninstalling and reinstalling, but it works great with my Plexwriter 16x10x40. If that stuff doesn't work, then try contacting ahead software or *obtaining* it again.

It might not be detected right, make sure it is.

i just defrag'd, i uninstalled it, reinstalled 5.5.3.0 this time. still no go. detects it fine except for the fact that it says max write speed is 12x instead of 16x, whats up ???

ok now it gets to around 16% and it restarts my computer, what the hell. i went back to version 5.5.1.8 so that fixed it only detecting a max write of 12x. but still got problems........

updated to firmware 1.03, tried pio mode 4, took my cd rom off the controller with the burner so it was just the master and there was no slave. still freezing. heres the deal though the buffer at the bottom of the screen the write buffer i believe, goes to 99 or 100%, then the cd hits about 16% and that buffer drops to 4% after that it jumps back up and as soon as it does it freezes. whats going on???

anyone with the same drive using a different program besides nero so i can try it out to see if it is nero screwing up or my burner???

FYI, the latest Nero version is 5.5.4.0.

update your firmware of your plextor. download the latest verson of nero and ENABLE DMA on your plextor drive

i upgraded the firmware, DMA is checked off, i will go download the newest version, but that still doesnt explain why it worked before the format and not now, but if this works who cares!!!

If you're running Win98 or WinME try this: search for the file scsihlp.vxd and rename it to anything say scsihlp.vxk. Reboot and load Nero again.

i have dma on, i am running win98se, and i cant find that file nikepete, anyone else, this is so annoying i made like 8 coasters already!!!!

Sorry typo !! scsi1hlp.vxd instead of scsihlp.vxd. This file is normally in the directory c:\windows\system\iosubsys

I am running the Plextor 16/10/40 with Nero 5.5.3.0 and had a couple problems like you. It would start working the drive was trying and I had to end it. I then noticed the OS would not pick up the Plextor so had to reboot. Not sure if this will help you, but I checked my connections out and tryed the Plextor software that comes with it - this failed though. I am not having any troubles at the moment though. Sometimes it can help to reboot the PC after CD copying.
To copy an audio CD with Nero, I choose the audio option and and click on Cd-Recorder menu at top. I then choose the image recorder which means the CD will be copied as an image to the hard drive. You can then add files and rearrange them as you like. Once this is done Cd-Recorder menu and revert to Plextor. Then File menu and Burn image.
This is the best way to copy audio.
