Site is slow, but the price seems to be $9.99 still. I also now see that "Coupons not allowed with this product" on the page.

Software Outlet needs to take the proceeds from this sale and switch to a faster host.

I got my order in last night when they were still taking the coupon, together with an email acknowledging same. Now I wonder when I will get a shipping notice, if ever.

Although this is a HOT deal, I believe buying OEM software without the required hardware purchase is illegal. It's also against forum rules to post any hot deals to OEM software.

What other kinds of posts are not permitted?
No SPAM! This includes:
Links to muli-level marketing schemes such as pay-to-surf or pay-for-referral sites, whether paid in cash or premiums.
No links to auction sites. We do not consider auctions to be Hot Deals. Posting a link to your own auction offer may be reason to lock your account.
No links to deals, promotions or offers by your own business or your employer. This is the "No Dealers" rule. We do not intend our forums as a free sales floor for your business. If you want to promote your company on AnandTech, contact our sales department about buying a banner ad.
No links to gaming sites, tobacco products or pornographic or sexually explicit materials.
No links to offers of OEM software without qualifying hardware or to software licenses without a qualifiying installation disk (CD, etc.).
No group buys. Sorry, but these deals have been costly to our members from both honest mistakes and outright fraud.

Not disputing you MrCoyote, but technically, there is no indication that this absolutely is an OEM product (although I assume it is)... It just says CD only.

This deal is still on for about another 3 hours. Their system was very sloooow yesterday so I coundn't get it. Tried again this morning and found the deal was still on. Just do a search on their site for "nero" and it will come up.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about OEM. Sales and use of OEM products are governed by the OEM EULA (End User License Agreement) that EACH company writes and promulgates for their OEM products. Microsoft does require that some of their OEM software products only be sold with accompanying hardware. Many other companies have OEM EULA's that have no such requirement. It seems to me that a lot of people assume that because Microsoft's OEM EULA has this requirement, it applies to all OEM EULA's. That is just not the case.

MrCoyote writes: "I believe buying OEM software without the required hardware purchase is illegal." True if the OEM EULA requires it, as in the case of Microsoft OEM EULA's for their operating systems. But if the OEM EULA has no such requirement, then that doesn't apply.

Also, the forum rules you quoted state: "No links to offers of OEM software without qualifying hardware or to software licenses without a qualifiying installation disk (CD, etc.)." Once again it depends upon how the OEM EULA is written. If there is no requirement of a hardware purchase with the software, then there is no violation of the OEM EULA when the software is purchased alone (i.e. legally). I'm sure the forum rules were written to prevent the forum from being used to promulgate illegal transactions, and not to ban links to legal transactions.

Many companies besides Microsoft sell OEM software, e.g. Symantec, Corel, Roxio, Ahead, etc. Each has it's own EULA, and you have to read each to see what it contains.

On a related note on EULA's, see Link.

This is not OEM Software. When you go to the Nero page and click on 'CD Only' This comes up:

Retail
This is a full retail version of the software. It includes the box, manuals and all other documentation that comes with a complete retail version.
Retail - No Box
All contents of the original retail box are included in this version. This may include jewel cases, manuals, registration card, quick reference card, installation guides and in some cases advertising materials. If it came with the original retail box, it will be included.

CD Only Version
Will ship as a CD only. Either in a jewel case or a paper or cardboard sleeve. There is usually a printable manual on the CD.

OEM Version
This product was originally sold with hardware. It is brand new and never opened. It may ship with a small piece of hardware such as a microphone. The product comes in a jewel case without the cover, CD only in a sleeve, or in a jewel case with the manual.

I bought 3...feels good to be legal for once.

Shipping was only $1 more once you hit 3 copies. At 2 copies it was the same ($5.95). FYI.

Price is still $9.99 on the site...guess it doesn't expire?

I infer from this Ahead NERO 6 Ultra web page ,that since the NERO package in this deal is not the Ultra version, you do not get the DVD/SVCD or HE-AAC plug-ins.

This page states that "The DVD-Video Plug-in and the HE-AAC Plug-in are already included in the Nero 6 Ultra Edition retailpackage and the webversion." This leads me to wonder whether or not these plug-ins are included in this non-Ultra version.

Can anyone verify this?

Thanks.

It does not matter what software is on the CD you get in the mail. All you need is the serial #. In fact, you shouldn't install from the CD anyway, as Nero makes frequent incremental updates. Download the full package from www.nero.com, and install using the serial # you purchased. You will have access to all of the components in the package.

Yeah, but what if this deal doesn't give you an "Ultra Version" serial number?

There is ONE VERSION. See Nero's site. They sell one version, they offer downloads for one version, they offer updates and support for one version.

According to CherryBOMB, and some others, there is more than one version. Here is what he said in an earlier post in this thread:

"This version only has 7 out of the 13 + the 1 beta

What it does not have:

Express6
Back it Up
Cover Designer
Nero Mix
Tool Kit
Image Drive
Recode-BETA

What in Does have:

Nero Burning Rom 6
StartSmart
Wave Editor2
SoundTrax
ShowTime
InCD4
Vision Express2

So this is clearly a OEM Basic Version........none the less,it's not a trial version that will end in 30 days.......... "

I tend to believe his conclusion about an OEM/Basic version, as it is consistent with the fact that Ahead is selling plug-ins for NERO 6. If there was only one version, then there would be no need to sell plug-ins that are "already included" in the Ultra Edition. They must be selling them to people who don't have the Ultra Edition.

Maybe this is a version that was supposed to be included with a DVD/CD-RW drive or something like that. NERO has used different versions in the past (i.e. burner specific editions) and I suspect that they are continuing to do so.

When people start to receive their copies, I'll guess we'll find out for sure.

Good luck.

BTW, the pictures on the SoftwareOutlet page and Ahead's are slightly different. The one on SoftwareOutlet's page does not say "Ultra Edition" like the one on Ahead's site. Also, the name of the product is slightly different on each site -- "Nero 6 -The Suite" on SoftwareOutlet and "Nero 6 Ultra Edition - The Ultimate CD/DVD Burning Suite" on the Ahead site.

You can download the other components from the Web site. A Nero 6 serial # is a Nero 6 serial #. Unless you buy something tied to a specific burner -- which this is not -- you can just throw away the CD you get in the mail and download everything from Nero's site, using your serial #.

(I'm not theorizing -- this is what I did.)

So you already got this specific item from SoftwareOutlet? Why didn't you say so before? That clears everything up then.
