Not bad. I noticed they require proof of ownership of a competing product for the $20 rebate but they don't note what you have to provide for that. If you don't have a competitive product, or an existing Nero, then the price is $44 AR.

Does anyone actually buy Nero? I've gotten like half a dozen copies from buying burners or other hardware (like mobos).

I can't imagine 7 being that much better than 6.

Per Nero 7 launch overview
?We have hit the nail on the head with the addition of Nero Home to Nero 7: users no longer need to be in front of their PCs to view and listen to their media files; they can access their entire libraries in front of the TV.?
Huh? In front of the TV? I saw the TV-capture and time shifting but what the..

Nero Home... a rip-off of XP media center!

For what? Alc. can't burn dvds at all, and I find it's not that friendly w/ audio cds either. As far as creating images I'd stick w/ alc. 120%.

I think this is a decent price (though after shipping and tax, it came up at about $36 for me, so I decided against it).

If anyone decides to order, I highly recommend just holding onto the serial number and not installing the boxed version. Instead, wait a week or so and get the downloaded version. It's supposed to fix a BUNCH of bugs in this release--some of which are pretty drastic. Here's a review with more info.

Hmm, that competitive rebate thing is going to be difficult. Here's the qualifying products from the rebate:
Roxio: Easy Media Creator, Easy CD & DVD Creator, Easy
CD & DVD Burning
Nero: Nero 5, Nero 5.5 or Nero 6 Ultra Edition
Pinnacle: Studio, Pinnacle Instant CD & DVD, Pinnacle Studio
Media Suite
Intervideo: WinDVD Creator, MediaOne, DVD Copy
Ulead: DiscCreator, VideoStudio

I own 5.5 and 6.0 ultra, but only from purchasing on nero's website. Going to be a bit difficult to get a front page of manual from that. I own an ancient retail version of Easy CD creator, when it was from adaptec but thats not listed here. This kinda sux. I aint going to buy it for $44, thats for sure.

It depends what you use them for. Nero works fine with creating bin/cue and ISO images. Nero does great at burning stuff.
Anything more advanced like making/burning clonecd backups of your purchased games, nero doesn't do clone stuff. I personally use nero for almost everything, I dont like installing a bunch of writing software that can potentially interact with each other.

Just to clarify: You are suggesting waiting to avoid the bugs NOT waiting because you can't get the bug fixes free if you already installed the original. right?

He's saying: Dont install retail when you buy. Wait a week or two for the release of the download version, download the full version, then install the download version with the retail serial number, because d/l version will be updated with bug fixes.

Does it look as though this will be worth upgrading to from 6 once the bugs are fixed?

Exactly.

And, yes, I think it would be a good upgrade from 6, but then again if you can't get a great price, it might be worth waiting a couple weeks until Roxio releases their new version. It's supposed to be pretty good too. Then we can compare.

About it being worth it, here's the product comparison sheet:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/doc/Nero7_comparison_sheet.pdf

Some of the bigger features, supports blu ray writing (although it will probably be a year before you can get the recorders for under $300 or whatever they will start at), and a bunch of new backup features (I'm thinking of using it for some backup stuff).
It has some misc things like a beat/loop type thing (think fruitly loops but much more basic) and some other stuff. You can check the list for more detail.

Yeah, the $30 rebate expired on the 20th (yesterday) lol I didn't even notice that. I'm glad I ordered, just in time. Then I found someone on ebay using the want it now to get me the front page of a nero manual for the $20 rebate heh.
