Definitely ImgBurn (it's free). For just burning an iso, you can set things up during installation so that, for general usage, you double click the iso and then one more click can start the burning process. Nero is just laborious - a trait computers are supposed to eliminate. The first time I used it, it seemed so easy that I thought I had missed some steps.

Well, there may be better tools out there, but here's what I use...

ImgBrn for burning images
InfraRecorder for creating data CDs and DVDs.
DeamonTools Lite for mounting images.

I have never had a problem with any of these and they are all free and light on resources.

+1 for Nero Lite (think there is a Nero Micro version as well). This is NOT a version for pirated copies. You still require a valid serial for Nero. There is a version for Nero 9 lite as well but I have no clue on it since I don't own Nero 9.

I haven't had a single issue with Nero 7 in Vista 64bit.
I have full suite installed, but yet pretty much only use the image burner. I have absolutely no issue with this, and feel so comfortable with it that I don't even care to bother switching to anything else. It burns, and only uses any processing when actually being ran. Otherwise, unlike a lot of other bloatware, it's pretty efficient and doesn't require any software running 24/7 to run properly.

sorry, but it runs several exes at startup

one of worst is Nero Scout - why the hell i need 3rd party file indexer on Vista?

do goolge search for it - everybody asks how to get rid of it

Nero 7?
Nothing is running at start up on my system. Hell, I just took a look at my msconfig and saw I haven't even needed to disable any Nero utilities running. Nothing has been set to run by default at start up. And it wouldn't be hard to disable anything running anyhow.
