.net framework 4.0 sdk does not show in programs list

I'm trying to learn C# so I ran the SDK setup .exe
The install was successful but does not show in my programs menu.
All the books and websites say I need to run the command prompt from the programs menu but I obviously I can't.

I already tried reinstalling and confirmed both times from my control panel programs list that the extended and client profile is there. But still nothing under "All Programs".

I check the Microsoft.Net folder in my C: drive but I can't find any bin folder.

Anyone know of any issues?
My OS is Windows 7 and I don't have any previous versions of .net framework

If you are looking for the "Visual Studio Command Prompt" then you need to install Visual Studio. Though, I'm not sure if the express version includes it but it should.

Hmm, I don't have a separate Program Files folder for the .NET SDK either, but I installed it along with Visual Studio 2010, not as an individual setup. On my system the tools are integrated with the Visual Studio command prompt. I do have a separate folder for the Windows 7.1 SDK.

Look in Program Files (or Program Files(x86)) for Microsoft SDKS or something similar. Browse the directory structure and you'll probably find what you need in the bin folder. You can add this folder to your path to make the tools accessible from a command prompt anywhere on the system.

That's weird. My book says Visual Studio is not required in order to build C# apps and access the command prompt. Then again this is an old book for 3.5

....

seems like i have to dl 2.0 to get it or buy visual studio. looks like a money grab by microsoft.

EDIT: misread the the 4.0 doc. google showed something else in the preview :\ windows sdk is a separate program i have to install.

Visual Studio Express is free. Net 4.0 is free. No money grab found.

Just download Visual Studio C# Express.

Visual Studio is a wonderful IDE and the installer will come with everything you need.
