Net Send problems

Using Net Send to send a message to another computer on our network. It will work fine from one computer but not another. Example - I can send it to from my computer to computer A, but from another computer it says it can't find computer A. All computers are running the Messenger service and the Termianl Services. Don't know why one will find a computer or user name and the other won't. Has anybody else had this problem? The OS on all the computers is WinXP Pro.

try with just IP address. sounds like you have a netbios name resolution problem.

make sure netbios is enabled on all computers.

also make sure the messenger service is enabled on the receiving computer.

I think SP2 may have disabled messenger service by default.

Net send is severely abused by spyware and it is not a good transport to send messages anymore since lots of antispyware software also disabled messenger services.

XP SP2 messenger service is disabled by default for the very good reason it is an open invitiation to spyware, et al.

Sending the message straight to the ip works. But the ip's change because we use dhcp so I want it to work using either the users id or the computer name.

Messenger is running on both computers. We don't have service pack 2 installed yet.

Netbios is also enabled on all the computers. It's just weird that on two computers with identical setups it works differently.

You can get ads that was but I have never seen NETSEND send a program across. I like to use it for getting someones attention while they are at their computer.
