Netbook Suggestions

Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a netbook and I'm leaning towards the Eee 1000HE. I'm not in any rush to buy it so my question is, does anyone want to stop me? Is there something shinier coming out soon or something that I should know about or something that is just better for the price ($380).

What I want from it is a disgusting(ly good) battery life and I will hose whatever OS is on it as soon as I get it and install ubuntu. I have 6.6G of music and that must fit, plus the OS itself so i'm going to say 10G min? though if something VERY tempting exists the music can be streamed if necessary...

if you want to use one of these for playing music, you damn well better have some earbuds or something. i have a 1000h and the speakers are *almost* worthless.

I'm looking to use it with my bluetooth headset so that's not a problem.

Dell Mini 10 has a new 6 cell battery option and you can get it with Ubuntu and not pay for Windows you aren't going to use.

I looked at the 100HE and dell mini 10 side by side somewhere (it was either staples or best buy i forget which) and thought the 1000he was better (and cheaper). When i say better I'm referring to the screen/keyboard beyond that can't comment. Of course this was a 5 minute comparison but general comments across the web are very favorable towards the 1000he. My only real complaint is size/weight. I just ordered the 1000he - I figure when Asus new 'slim' netbook comes out if it pans out I can always switch (and pass this one off to my Dad )

Just bought a 1000HE and so far am very happy. Had trouble getting connected to my Netgear N router, however. I installed the latest driver for the WLAN and had to set the network preferences manually and wah-lah! My network never did appear in the search list.
Battery life is excellent (I'm on 5 hours after the first charge and it says I have 2 hours to go), touch pad (and I usually don't like them) is good, but missing the scroll feature the dell has on their laptops. I will wear out the page down and arrow down buttons since it is a small screen. It browses fast with Norton 360 loaded.

It came with Star Office. The 1000HA I believe comes with MS Student trial? but the battery life isn't as good. Anyone know if Word documents will open with Star office? I'm not familiar with it but I don't plan on doing much word processing.

Get a light color if you can-it is glossy and gets fingerprints very easily! Overall, very happy. What good is a portable machine if the battery keeps going dead? This was my major deciding point, also has a N mini card.
