I got an Eee 1000HA last week, and while I like it, Im not a fan of windows.

I first put easy peasy on it, wasnt a fan of the interface and it acted funky with an external monitor...and eeebuntu isnt much better, except for some reason the standard version of it is giving me graphics problems and wont give me the full res of my external monitor :-/

what is everyone using and is your video working properly?

thanks

I would have said try the Ubuntu netbook version first.

Is it possible to get the version of Linux that Asus uses on their netbooks?

How big is the monitor.

Keep in mind the hardware on a netbook is minimal. The onboard video has its limitations and they are fairly big limitations. SO no software is going to ba able to fix a hardware limitation.

All the distros everyone has listed are basically ubuntu variants. I'd try those eee forums and ask there. Whats wrong with the xandros one they included on the non windows ones?

its not *that* minimal. with the NBR version, the graphics actually worked just fine (the resolutions i wanted, with compositing, are supported), but even when I had used desktop switcher to get to a regular gnome interface and had the resolution set to use my LCD, any new windows that i opened that were smaller than 1024x600....it tried to keep stuck in the upper-left portion of the screen that was 1024x600! weird!

really though, unless i can find out whats funky about it (i may get this moved to the *nix forum and see who has any ideas) i may just go back to the NBR version. i can work around the 1024x600 limits, its just a little aggravating, but the video worked just fine otherwise.

I've got a eeepc 1000h.

I'm running xubuntu with the kernel from array.org.
My window manager is awesome 2, a tiling window manager.

I'd be running FreeBSD on it, but the wireless chipset isn't supported..

I'm running XP Home on my Aspire at the moment because of NetFlix and a few other apps. But I've been playing around with Ubuntu Remix on a Dell D600 and it seems pretty decent. Can't say I've tried it on an external monitor yet though. I vaguely remember someone saying it was limited in resolution somehow, I can't recall.

My 1000HA can output 1920x1200, that isn't too limited imo.

I'm currently just using boring old Windows XP. None of the programs I use for my classes are available for linux.

Just tried my Aspire One on my wife's 17" Dell and it displays 1280x1024 just fine in mirror or extended mode. But oddly I couldn't make the external my primary display. Just a driver bug I suppose.

You probably have to use the function keys to switch monitors.

i know the dell and others varied the bios shared-ram through the life of the units. they usually started out with a low # and doubled it.

ie 64 max shared to 128 max shared.

there is no reason the output should be limited unless the VGA ramdac can't handle the resolution. most everything can handle 1920x1200 but not 2560x1600
